The Green Team Students of Service Organization here at Lakes works with the PTA to help with the school-wide recycling campaign. We will also get involved in numerous school and community events that are focused on taking care of our Earth. Our Green Team consist 's of selected fourth grade students who are chosen by the sponsor. The Green Team sponsor is Marcia Rivas, TLAE Instructional Coach.
The Green Team of Twin Lakes Academy Elementary is a group of 4th graders who have developed their service organization with a focus on caring for our Earth. On Friday, November 20, 2009 at 10:00 AM the Twin Lakes Elementary Green Team formally adopted the road next to their school. They have joined the City of Jacksonville’s Adopt-a-Road program which is a part of the “Clean It Up, Green It Up” initiative. Daniel Durbec, the Community Activities Coordinator for the city of Jacksonville, officiated the event by presenting the Green Team and the school a certificate of participation. At the event, they also received garbage bags and gloves to assist them in completing their monthly trash collection. The group bags and weighs the trash, and reports their totals to the Adopt-a-Road organization each month.

Team Green Champion of the Year HM
For the 2nd year in a row, Twin Lakes has earned an Honorable Mention in the Green Champion of the Year award from the district. Each school chooses a Green Champion (that's me) to facilitate the "green" efforts at his/her school and we compete for the Green Champion of the Year in May each year. We earned the award for our efforts in recycling, water conservation and energy awareness. As a part of our award, TLAE will receive $200.00 and we are asked to apply it towards a sustainable effort at our school. We're doing a pretty good job of recycling, so next year our focus will be on energy awareness. Get ready for our "Lights Out!" campaign-it's coming! Thank you all for supporting our Green Team's efforts this year and for helping us with events such as our Used Book Drive during the Read-a-Thon and for filling our Paper Retriever bin. I am proud to work in a school that supports conservation and Earth-friendly initiatives.
