This school year our Wildcats will Saddle Up For Success! as we continue to focus on our vision (Leaders for Life) and mission (LEAD – Learn Excel Achieve Dream) statements.  The foundation of our vision and mission incorporates “The Seven Habits of Highly effective People" in everything we do as a school.  We will continue to use Dr. Steven R. Covey's book, The Leader in Me, as a framework for our lessons and learning.  Together, our community will gain the skills and character that the global community demands.

The Covey principle-based leadership skills come from the books The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People and The 7 Habits of Happy Kids.  The habits are as follows:

·         Habit 1: Be Proactive® • You're in Charge

·         Habit 2: Begin With the End in Mind® • Have a Plan

·         Habit 3: Put First Things First® • Work First, Then Play

·         Habit 4: Think Win-Win® • Everyone Can Win

·         Habit 5: Seek First to Understand, Then to Be Understood® • Listen Before You Talk

·         Habit 6: Synergize® • Together Is Better

·         Habit 7: Sharpen the Saw® • Balance Feels Best

In addition to the seven habits, Dr. Covey has added an eighth habit that encompasses one’s talent, passion, conscience, and the needs of your community. This eighth habit is titled Finding Your Voice and Inspire Others to Find Theirs.

The Leader in Me process helps develop the essential life skills and characteristics students need in order to thrive in the 21st century. The habits are designed to make students realize that they are in charge of making their own decisions. The habits promote responsibility, respect and collaboration, skills that are valued not only in school but also in the community and in the work place.  Through this program, students will be taught how to lead their lives and to be a success in their own right.  Our TLAE Wildcats will become leaders for life with the self-confidence to succeed in any endeavor.

In addition, we will continue our Standardized Dress Code this year. The purpose of the Standardized Dress Policy is to provide additional opportunities for increased school safety, to encourage our students to experience a greater sense of school identity and belonging, to encourage an improvement in student behavior, to reduce school clothing costs, to encourage a high level of program participation and to improve and expand academic excellence.

At Twin Lakes Academy Elementary, we are committed to working with you to create leaders for life one habit at a time.  Our leadership culture will impact teachers, parents, and the community, not just the students.  This is our chance to prepare our students for the future; we ask that you partner with us in nurturing the “leader” within each of our students.
