STUDENTS OF SERVICE
(SOS)
Students of Service
are made up of three groups of fifth graders.
Safety Patrols:
responsible for safety by doing car duty, bus duty, as
well as hall duty.
TechnoCats: produce a TV newscast each morning
Teachers of
Tomorrow (TOTs): assigned to individual teachers to help with classroom
duties.
Requirements for Students of Service:
Academic grades of 3.0 by end of the third nine weeks
Conduct grades of A on the report card for the entire 4th grade year
Recommendation by a faculty member
After qualifying for the position, the student will receive an application and must write an essay explaining what characteristics he/she has that would make him/her a good choice for Student of Service. The student also indicates his/her first, second, and third choice for the position he/she would like. The first choice is not always the position awarded.
The announcement of Students of Service takes place at the final PTA meeting of the year; announced on WTLA: The Morning Show; and recognition is given during the final Flag Raising of the year. The Student of Service term begins the first day of school of the 5th grade year.
