Music /  Multimedia Experience Lab

Each student participates in the music program on a weekly basis.   Students are actively involved in singing, playing, moving, listening and creative activities.  In addition to the regular music schedule, holiday and special event's programs are performed by various classes.

The Multimedia Experience Lab located at Carter G. Woodson is the first stage in a three-tiered plan to engage students at the elementary level with rich multimedia experiences.  What you will see today is a pre-production studio.  In this lab, students will learn the fundamentals of creating a song.  The hardware and computer workstations will provide all students with the opportunity to realize their own creative vision and bring it to life.

In the lab, students will be using the same hardware and software that is used by professionals in multimedia studios around the world.  During class time, students will learn the basics of music theory, recording and mixing techniques, as well as how to put music to film / images.  Future expansion plans for the multimedia program include the development of a post-production studio, a mock radio station where students produce and publish pod casts, and a TV Production Lab.

This new environment also creates the possibility of applying multimedia skills to cross curricular teaching.  One such example would be students researching a science concept and sharing their creation with the rest of their class.  Later, these productions could be uploaded to the internet and shared with peers around the world.
