Standards Based Learning

Carter G. Woodson Elementary promotes standards-based expectations as defined by Duval County Public Schools. Our instructional strategies are based on both the Sunshine State Standards and the New Performance Standards.  The expectation here at Woodson is that our children will not only reach, but exceed these standards.  Our goal is to develop and build upon a foundation that will serve as a catalyst for success.  Therefore, all students are afforded the same quality of education through our school wide Inclusion Program.

As a result of our high expectations, our school created a “Model Classroom” which is located in the classroom/Office of the School Instructional and Reading First Coaches.  This classroom was designed to serve as the location for all Instructional Grade Level Meetings where grade levels (Pre K- 2) and disciplines (3rd-5th ELA, and 3rd-5th Math) meet and analyze student work and assessments, in addition to participating in selected professional development trainings. The “Model Classroom” was also designed to serve as a visual example of what elements should be evident in a standards based classroom. In turn, the model classroom is also used to drive conversation for future needed professional development.
