Helpful Reminders in a Crisis
If a student is expressing thoughts of suicide, remember these helpful suggestions:
- Remain calm and express your concern. Remember ALGEE!
- Do NOT leave the student alone, do not allow them to change classes, nor leave the school without the school counselor (or administrator) speaking with the student.
- Call the school counselor or administrator for assessment of the student.
- If you cannot reach the counselor or administrator by phone, walk the student to the appropriate individual either between classes or find a person to cover your class.
- DCPS Crisis Hotline is available 24/7 for DCPS Staff concerned about a DCPS Student.
