As we head into summer, we want to encourage our students to continue practicing the foundational skills for their upcoming grade level. Attached to this letter you will find a grade-level flyer outlining the essential skills students should have mastered this school year in order to be successful next year.
These are not “extra” skills — they are the building blocks students will need to access and master the next level of curriculum. Just like athletes continue to practice over the summer to stay sharp, our students benefit from short, consistent practice as well.
When students have downtime this summer, we encourage families to build in a few minutes of practice each day. Flash cards, reading together, math fact games, writing, telling time, and discussing books are simple ways to keep skills fresh and prevent the “summer slide.” Small moments of practice can make a BIG difference in student confidence and success when school begins again.
Please note that students will be assessed on these foundational skills during the first five weeks of school on Fridays, and these assessments will count as part of their class grade. Our goal is not to create stress, but rather to ensure students begin the year feeling prepared, capable, and ready to grow.
In addition to foundational skills practice, we are also sending home the 2026–2027 Sunshine State Young Readers book list for grades k-2. We would LOVE for students to get a jump start on reading this summer and join our schoolwide Sunshine Young Readers Book Club with Mrs. Doyle! Students who begin reading now will have an exciting head start and opportunities to participate in book club activities throughout the school year.
We appreciate your partnership and support in helping our Mustangs continue learning and growing all summer long. Thank you for helping us ensure students return ready to “Saddle Up” for another successful school year!
With appreciation,
Mrs. Doyle

As we approach the last week of school, we want to thank you for your partnership and support throughout the year. This is an exciting time for students, but it can also bring heightened emotions and energy. Recently, we have experienced an increase in student conflicts, including disagreements, threats, and physical altercations.
The safety and well-being of our students and staff remain our highest priority. We are asking for your support in reinforcing the importance of respectful behavior, positive decision-making, and appropriate conflict resolution at school and online. We take ALL threats of violence seriously and will always follow the code of conduct.
Please take a few moments to speak with your child about:
Treating others with kindness and respect
Reporting concerns or threats to a trusted adult immediately
Avoiding social media posts or messages that may escalate conflicts
Understanding that threats, fighting, or unsafe behavior will result in school consequences and possible involvement of law enforcement
Our staff will continue to closely supervise students and proactively address concerns to help ensure a safe and positive end to the school year. We encourage families to partner with us by monitoring conversations and social media activity and reminding students that everyone deserves to feel safe at school.
If your child shares information about a potential conflict or safety concern, please contact the school office immediately so we can respond promptly.
As a reminder no backpacks this week and ask your student to check lost and found for any lost items.

As we spend time with family and friends this Memorial Day, may we also take a moment to reflect with gratitude and respect. ❤️🤍💙

We want to thank Ms. Westphal and our PTA for the wonderfu family event this past Friday evening. The Art Walk and the Family game night was a success. We appreciate all of our volunteers who spent their evening at CTE supporting the event.
Tomorrow we kick off our End-of-Year Awards Programs! Please arrive a few minutes in advance to check in at the cafeteria doors with your valid ID. Our awards programs are short, and we do not want you to miss any part of your child’s special moment. We will also have a checkout desk located near the flagpole for families who plan to sign students out following the ceremony.
While on campus, all visitors must continue to follow school safety protocols and procedures. We are encouraging students to dress nicely for their awards ceremony, and we ask that these events be treated with the respect and decorum our students deserve as we celebrate their hard work and accomplishments.
As we prepare to close out the school year, please be on the lookout for important “Summer Jump Start” documents coming home this Friday. These documents outline foundational skills students should have mastered before entering the next grade level. For example, students leaving 3rd grade should know their multiplication facts with automaticity. Students entering grades 4 and 5 should continue practicing these facts over the summer and be prepared for assessments during the first weeks of school. These skills will be incorporated into quarter grades next year. A little practice over the summer can make a huge difference in helping students start the year strong.
We realize the weather is getting warmer and students are dressing for spring and summer temperatures. However, please make sure clothing still fits appropriately and follows school expectations. Shorts that fit in the fall may no longer fit appropriately in the spring. In addition, ALL shoes must have backs for student safety. Slides, slippers, and backless footwear are not permitted at school.
As we close out the year it is important that parents or guardians pick up all meds from the clinic prior to the end of the school year. Any meds left after June 3rd will be properly discarded as per health department procedures.
Be sure to monitor the district webpage for sign ups for extended day registration. That typically occurs early July. Those spots fill with in seconds of opening. You can find more info on the dcps webpage.
Same for bus registration be sure to register now for a bus for next year. Once registration closes you may have to wait weeks to get approved for a bus.
Finally, we need your help with timely student pickup. We continue to have the same small group of students being picked up late each week after dismissal has ended. Please begin making arrangements now to ensure your child is picked up on time each day. Repeated late pickups create supervision challenges for staff and can be stressful for students. We appreciate your cooperation and planning ahead as we finish the school year strong together.
Thank you for your continued support of our Mustangs!

Good Evening Mustang Families,
Tomorrow our 4th Grade Mustangs will take their FAST Math State Assessment! 🐎➕📐
Please help your child be successful by making sure they get a good night’s sleep and arrive to school on time and ready to do their best. Encourage them to apply themselves and use all the strategies they have learned this year. If they know it matters to you, it will matter to them.
We know our Mustangs are ready to shine! 🌟
We also ask that families plan ahead for afternoon dismissal. Car rider dismissal ends promptly at 3:10 PM daily. Thank you for helping us ensure all students are picked up on time.
Be on the lookout next week for Summer Jump Start tips and review materials coming home with students. These quick practice activities will help your child stay sharp and get a head start for the fall. Reviewing skills just a few times each week over the summer can make a big difference!
Thank you for your continued partnership and support. Let’s go Mustangs! 🐎
