Ms. Deborah Kootsouradis

Ms. Deborah Kootsouradis

Assistant Principal of Assessments

Ms. Kootsouradis (affectionately known as Ms. Koots) was born in Schenectady, New York, but spent most of her formative years in Jacksonville Beach. A proud graduate of Fletcher High School, she is a product of Duval County Public Schools.

After high school, Ms. Kootsouradis earned an associate degree in stenography from The Stenotype Institute and served for several years as a court reporter in Florida’s Fourth Judicial Circuit. As technology began reshaping the field, she reevaluated her career path and pursued a bachelor’s degree in psychology from Ashford University. Shortly thereafter, she joined the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office as a corrections officer—a role that sparked her deep passion for education.

During her time in corrections, Mrs. Koots became acutely aware of the link between literacy and incarceration. Motivated to make a difference, she earned a master’s degree in psychology and launched a peer-tutoring program that empowered illiterate inmates to learn to read while serving their sentences. Witnessing the pride and joy on the faces of newly literate individuals inspired her to pursue a teaching certification.

Mrs. Kootsouradis began her teaching career with Duval County Schools in 2011 and earned her Educational Leadership certification in 2022. She firmly believes that education and knowledge are the keys to unlocking opportunity—and that it is our responsibility to ensure the next generation holds more keys than the last.
