DCPS Professional Learning offers the following FLDOE-approved endorsement courses free of charge to DCPS teachers. 

Gifted Endorsement

  • Nature and Needs of Gifted Students

  • Guidance and Counseling for the Gifted

  • Education of Special Populations of Gifted Students

  • Curriculum and Instructional Strategies for the Gifted*

  • Theory and Development of Creativity*

Curriculum Development for Teaching Gifted Students and Theory and Development of Creativity for the Gifted are considered advanced courses and have prerequisites. Registrants must have completed at least two of the other three Gifted Endorsement courses in order to be eligible for registration advanced Gifted courses. Participants will be placed into available and appropriate courses based on current SAP in-service record.

ESOL Endorsement

  • Communication and Understanding for Eng

    lish Language Learners (ELLs)

  • Methods of Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL)

  • Curriculum and Materials Development

  • Applied Linguistics*

  • Testing and Evaluation*

ESOL Applied Linguistics and ESOL Testing and Evaluation are considered advanced courses in the ESOL series. Participants must complete at least one of the other three foundational ESOL Endorsement courses prior to being placed in a DCPS section of ESOL Applied Linguistics or ESOL Testing and Evaluation. Participants will be placed into available and appropriate courses based on current SAP in-service record.

Reading Endorsement

  • Competency 1: Foundations of Reading Instruction

  • Competency 2: Application of Evidence-based Instructional Practices

  • Competency 3: Foundations and Applications of Assessment

  • Competency 4: Foundations and Applications of Differentiated Instruction

  • Competency 5: Demonstration of Accomplishment (Prerequisites: Comps. 1-4. Credit for Comp 5 is only recognized when earned AFTER completion of Comps 1-4.)

DCPS Reading Competencies 1-5 must be completed in sequential order. If you have completed competencies out of order, you must complete missing competencies in the order of course progression. Participants will be placed into available and appropriate courses based on current SAP in-service record.

ASD Endorsement

  • Nature and Needs, Assessment and Diagnosis of Autism Spectrum Disorder with Field Experience

  • Alternative/Augmentative Communication Systems and Assistive/Instructional Technology for Students with Autism Spectrum Disorder with Field Experience.

  • Applied Behavior Analysis and Positive Behavior Supports for Students with Autism Spectrum Disorder with Field Experience.

DCPS ASD Endorsement courses have been condensed into three 80-hour courses to include elements of field study in each course and allow participants to earn the endorsement with 240 hours of coursework instead of the previous 300 hours. Courses may be taken out of order, but it is highly recommended that participants begin with the course that includes Nature and Needs of ASD. Each course is offered one time per school year.

Registration Information

Term dates are listed below. Registration takes place in PowerSchool. All courses are offered through Canvas in a hybrid online format. At least two live learning sessions will be held during the term; instructors may schedule more. Because of the rigor and time commitment required of these courses and the need to provide opportunities to all DCPS teachers, no more than one course per subject, per term is permitted.

Registration for ESOL, Gifted, and Reading Endorsement Courses

DCPS ESOL, Gifted, and Reading Endorsement courses now use a course registration request system to enroll participants into appropriate and available courses. Participants requesting registration will be moved from the Registration Request into an Endorsement course roster after the registration window closes and before the requested term begins.

Participants will be placed into available and appropriate courses based on current SAP in-service records. Prior to registering for an ESOL, Gifted, or Reading Endorsement course, please review your in-service record to ensure its accuracy.

2026-2027 Endorsement Course Offerings

All courses will be offered for registration each term, unless otherwise noted. Courses will be held based on adequate registration. If a course is canceled due to of lack of registration, it will be offered again in a later term.

Please note that teachers cannot receive in-service points for completing the same ASD, ESOL, Reading, or Gifted course more than one time. Participants are responsible for ensuring they are registered appropriately based on their course history and in-service records.

There are also fee-based options available through approved external partners. The participant will be responsible for paying for each course taken.  

Approved External Partners:

As of July 1, 2023, only certificates from facilitator-led courses offered by Literacy Solutions will be accepted by DCPS. Non-facilitated courses will not be accepted.

*Course completion certificates from approved external partners must be provided to DCPS Professional Learning by emailing dcpspl@duvalschools.org to be added to the in-service record. Email the certificate to Certification at dcpscertification@duvalschools.org to request review for out-of-field clearance.
