Independent Study Requirements

Independent Study Requests are submitted directly to the Professional Learning Office.

All submissions must include the Independent Study Verification Form indicating where the participant's learning has been shared at the school/department level (e.g. with other colleagues, presentation shared at a Professional Learning Community (PLC), team/grade-level/department meeting, or instruction embedded in the classroom). The Independent Study Verification Form must be signed by your Principal/Supervisor and uploaded with the appropriate artifacts. The request questionnaire will prompt you to upload the artifacts and verification form.

Examples of Independent Study types and their appropriate artifacts: 

  • Classroom visit - approved Temporary Duty Elsewhere (TDE) leave form

  • Conference - program agenda.

  • Non-college Credit - certificate of completion signed by Inservice Director verifying number of hours and dates of completion.

  • Educational Travel - slides, pictures, brochures, and artifacts used in the presentation.

Once you have the appropriate documentation, please log into PowerSchool and choose the Independent Study tab at the top of the page. Then choose “Create Independent Study Request.” Fill out the questionnaire and be sure to include Verification Form and all attachments as required. Once it is approved, your points will be uploaded to your PowerSchool transcript.
