About Schools of the Month

We are so proud to partner with Community First Credit Union to recognize the amazing work being done in our schools!

Each month, the Team Duval school community is invited to nominate a "school of the month" based on how well that school exemplifies the chosen theme for that month.

Lake Lucina Elementary School

Principal Michelle Walsh

Lake Lucina Elementary School fosters a strong culture of school attendance with its welcoming and nurturing environment. Students are celebrated for their unique charms that make them feel special and motivated to succeed. Lake Lucina’s relationship driven curriculum helps offer personalized and joyful learning experiences that build rapport with students and families. This year’s theme of “Gaming: meet the students right where they are”. The school has developed game-like systems in curriculum and are motivated with the incentive to visit the gaming room for good behavior and attendance. It takes “G.R.I.T.” (giving up is not an option) to thrive at Lake Lucina and every staff makes sure students reimagine their beliefs of what is possible.

New Berlin Elementary School

Principal Raquel Foxworth

Communication is key at New Berlin Elementary School, and it’s a way the school keeps its attendance high. New Berlin emphasizes that attendance is key to a successful educational experience with open communication and messaging to families. At New Berlin, families are strongly encouraged to take part in the educational experiences of their child at the school. They are pushed to attend community meetings and family fun days as the staff know that it takes parent investment in education to see students succeed. “Nothing But Excellence” is one of their mottos and they work to build a whole-community approach to reach their goals.

Samuel Wolfson School for Advanced Studies

Principal Christopher Begley

When students wake up wanting to go to school, that’s when you know something is working, and that is exactly how many students at Samuel Wolfson School for Advanced Studies feel. Wolfson, lovingly known as The Pack, encourages a present and balanced approach to education. Students learn to persevere through challenges, turning difficult school days into manageable ones and helping them better cope with stress. By combining this approach with attendance incentives, such as school cash, treats, and lunch rewards, Wolfson encourages students to stay in school.
