Joe McKenzie was born in Bartow, FL to parents who were both career educators. Mr. McKenzie attended Erskine College in Due West, SC, majoring in History and played NCAA Div. 2 Tennis. After an 11-year career serving teens through faith-based non-profit work, Mr. McKenzie transitioned to teaching in 2009.

As a reading teacher and literacy coach at Terry Parker High School, Mr. McKenzie was a member of a faculty team which saw Parker go from a “D” to a “B” school. Mr. McKenzie has been the coach of numerous sports, including Varsity Football, Softball, and Tennis.  After his time at Terry Parker, Mr. McKenzie served at Fletcher High School as the reading coach for 2 years. He currently is spearheading the effort for Flag Football in DCPS middle schools through advocacy and by coaching the FMS team.

Mr. McKenzie is in his 10th year as an administrator, serving at Sandalwood High School, Mandarin High School and now entering his 5th year as the Principal at Duncan U. Fletcher Middle School. The best part of being Fletcher Middle School Senator is the community and school spirit. That Senator Pride is unparalleled in Duval County!

Mr. McKenzie and his wife have been married for 20 years and have two children.
