2D Art
The 2D art audition requires both a portfolio submission, and an in person drawing of still life. The student’s portfolio should include 3 to 5 pieces of well thought out, original, imaginative, or inventive compositions. The selections should show strong competence of technical skills and presentation, and there should be visual evidence of highly successful use of the elements of design (line, shape, form). All pieces should show attention to detail through purposeful, completed artworks. All still life artwork should be a well thought out composition*, resulting in a realistic drawing that demonstrates visual evidence of highly developed skills in the use of elements of design. All work should display the full range of values from darkest to lightest, including mid tones, and each item should be in proper relation (proportion) to each other and to the space on the page.
*Composition is the way each element is combined to create one whole, complete, piece.
The audition consists of two parts:
Part I: Portfolio Video Submission via TEAMS.
Deadline1: April 19th to be considered for the April 25th Audition Date
Deadline 2: May 9th to be considered for the January 24th Audition Date
Artwork Requirements: Be sure to submit your absolute best examples of work in the following styles:
At least one Still Life drawing.
At least one Portrait or Landscape.
At least one Random Piece of the student’s choosing (please, no cartoon characters).
At least one of the above should be in color (color pencil, marker, watercolor, acrylic paint, oil paint, oil pastels, etc.).
For each art piece, in the video please talk speak on these key points:
Video Requirements: Make sure the portfolio video includes these details below.
Your name, raising grade, and the art for which you are auditioning.
For each art piece (3 to 5), hold it clearly in the camera for 10-20 seconds.
While holding the piece, state the style, medium, and reason you selected it for your portfolio.
Choose one to be you best piece and discuss the following:
Why did you choose it as your best piece?
What was your thought process while creating this piece?
If you could change anything, what would it be and why?
Part II: In-Person Still Life Drawing Session:
Still life drawing is an artistic practice where the artist creates a representation of inanimate objects. These objects are typically arranged in a specific way to create an interesting composition.
Part 1 (video submission) must be completed prior to the drawing session.
Date and Time: 6:30 pm on January 6th or 10:00 am on January 24th @Fort Caroline Middle
Duration: 30-minute drawing session

Cinematic Art
A successful Cinematic Art audition includes a video story that has a beginning, a middle, and an end. The work is original, imaginative or inventive, employs higher level thinking that connects to big, universal ideas and the video itself demonstrates the student’s ability to make well-informed and intentional decisions to convey their story through positioning, characters, editing choices, etc. During the audition activities, the student will demonstrate innovative solutions and resourcefulness as they engage with the task assigned.
The audition consists of two parts.

Video Requirements Cinematic Art: The key to a successful Cinematic Art Audition is to tell a story through the camera. A successful submission should include a clear beginning, middle and end of the story. This can be done through images, video editing, storytelling on camera, interviewing, or even a news style report. Be sure to submit your absolute best examples of work.
Slate: Your name, current grade and art area should appear in the beginning of the video and should be CREATIVELY presented!
Your “short film” should be a minimum of 60 to a maximum of 3 minutes and could be based off of one of the following prompts or an original idea.

Part II: In-Person Interview Cinematic Art
Be prepared to learn and demonstrate one aspect of a video production team on the spot such as video editing, camera work, or lighting.
Date and Time: 6:30 pm on January 6th or 10:00 am on January 24th @Fort Caroline Middle. Expect approximately 30-minutes depending on the number of auditioners
