Meet the Principal, Trevor Clayton

Welcome to Joseph Stilwell Military Academy of Leadership

Principal Trevor Clayton is a dedicated educational leader and proud native of Belle Chasse, Louisiana, whose career reflects a deep commitment to service, leadership, and student success. A retired Naval Engineering Officer with 24 years of distinguished service in the United States Navy, Principal Clayton brings a strong foundation of discipline, integrity, and strategic thinking to the field of education. 

Following his military career, Principal Clayton transitioned into education, where he began as a classroom teacher, instructing students in English and Reading. His passion for literacy and student achievement quickly set him apart as an educator who not only understood curriculum but also valued the importance of building meaningful relationships with students. 

Over the years, he has served as an Assistant Principal of Curriculum and Instruction at several schools, including Darnell-Cookman Middle/High School, Springfield Middle (Kirby-Smith) School, Northwestern Middle School, Highlands Middle School, Ribault Middle School, and Lakeshore Middle School. In each of these roles, he demonstrated a strong commitment to academic excellence, data-driven instruction, and fostering positive school cultures that support both staff and students. 

Principal Clayton’s leadership extends beyond his professional accomplishments. He is a proud father of five sons, four serving in the United States Marine Corps and one in the United States Coast Guard, continuing a powerful family legacy of service to the nation. 

Today, Principal Clayton is honored and excited to serve as the building principal of Joseph Stilwell Military Academy of Leadership (JSMAL). In this role, he is dedicated to developing future leaders by instilling the values of accountability, resilience, and service. His unique blend of military experience and educational leadership positions him to inspire students and staff alike, ensuring a culture of excellence and leadership for all.
