Information on Mental Health Challenges Facing Military Students
Duval County Public Schools’ School Health Services Program helps remove health barriers that can affect a student’s ability to learn, attend school, and thrive. Services are available to public school students in Pre-K through 12th grade and are provided at no cost to families.
School health services can support students with:
Everyday health needs and minor illnesses or injuries
Emergency health needs while at school
Chronic and acute health conditions, including diabetes, asthma, allergies, and epilepsy
Mental and emotional health needs
Care management that helps students remain healthy, safe, and ready to learn
Support for Military-Connected Families
We understand that children of military parents and their families may experience unique challenges, including school transitions, changes in routines, and periods of separation from a parent. School health services can provide an important source of stability and support during these times.
A school health representative can help connect your child with physical or mental health services while they are at school. Mental health support may include therapy through local and national agencies that provide students with a safe, supportive, private, and confidential space to talk and receive care. Military families do not have to navigate these challenges alone. If your child needs health or emotional support at school, please contact your school’s health representative to learn about available services and how to access them.
