As the oldest historically black high school in Duval County, Raines High School has been shaping lives through the power of education for generations. During that time, we have maintained a tradition of excellence in academics, athletics, community involvement, and so much more. Today, our students have an unparalleled range of options for building an extraordinary future that starts the moment they step through our doors.
A Community Like No Other
Students at Raines High School learn, first and foremost, to question the bounds of what they perceive as possible. Once they realize they have nearly limitless potential, they’re able to learn everything from fundamental subjects to a diverse array of advanced placement and honors classes. What path your teen follows at Raines depends largely on them (and you) learning about subjects they’re passionate about. Whether the next step is college, military, or a career, with their hard work and our encouragement and training, they’ll be ready!
Your Pathway to College and Beyond
Raines High School brings some of the city’s best educators to our campus. Many of our teachers hold graduate degrees and everyone on our team – from the principal to administrative staff to the teachers – has a deep passion for helping students grow and thrive.
Cultivating Greatness
There’s truly something for everyone to love about Raines. We are a magnet school for both information technology and performing and visual arts. We offer three levels of Chinese language classes, culinary arts, and Army JROTC to enrich the educational experience for our students.

Career and Technical Education
Provides an opportunity for students to explore career options in a setting that takes into account the broad range of every student's needs - from career guidance and counseling to course work that stresses the academic and occupational applications of the subject.
Visual and Performance Arts
Visual and performing fine arts encourage students to express creativity, develop confidence, and explore different perspectives. Through art, music, theater, and dance, students build communication, collaboration, and critical-thinking skills while gaining appreciation for culture, creativity, and self-expression in a supportive learning environment.
Army JROTC
The JROTC program at William M. Raines Senior High School, proudly known as the Viking Battalion, develops students through leadership, discipline, service, citizenship, and academic excellence that helps cadets build their leadership skills.
The Cambridge Advanced International Certificate of Education (AICE)
The Cambridge Advanced International Certificate of Education (AICE) program is an internationally recognized, rigorous, pre-university curriculum and examination system for highly motivated, academically oriented high school students. The Cambridge AICE Diploma Program encourages and develops the skills of independent research and investigation, the use of initiative and creativity and the application of skills and knowledge. All student applying to this program must meet eligibility criteria.
Dual Enrollment
Dual enrollment is an acceleration mechanism that allows student to pursue an advanced curriculum relevant to their postsecondary interests. Dual enrollment provides high school students the opportunity to earn college credit while simultaneously earning high school credit through dual enrollment.
Culinary
Culinary arts in high school is a specialized program offering students the opportunity to explore the foundations of professional cooking, food preparation, and restaurant management while gaining practical skills applicable to both future careers and everyday life.
Athletics
William M. Raines High School proudly offers a world-class athletic program that develops champions on the field, in the classroom, and in the community. Through a tradition of excellence, discipline, and teamwork, our student-athletes are empowered to achieve success at the highest levels and lead with pride long after graduation.
