WESTSIDE MIDDLE SCHOOL UNIFORM POLICY

Westside Middle School Uniform and Appearance Policy

Westside Middle School enforces the Duval County Public Schools Uniform Policy and Appearance Code. All students are expected to adhere to the dress code and dress for daily success.

Non-compliance with the uniform policy will be treated as a violation of the Duval County Student Code of Conduct.

Uniform Requirements

These standards are designed to promote safety, academic focus, and school pride. For ADA accommodations related to uniform compliance, please contact our school administration directly.

1. Tops (Shirts and Uniform Polos)

  • Students must wear a uniform Polo Shirt, T-shirt, or jacket with the official Westside Middle School logo.

  • Shirts without the logo will not be permitted.

  • Uniforms from previous years may be worn, except for hoodies, which are no longer allowed.

Grade-Level Colors:

  • 6th Grade: Westside Logo Red Polo Shirt, Westside Logo Red Shirt, or Westside Logo Red Jacket

  • 7th Grade: Westside Logo Black Polo Shirt, Westside Logo Black Shirt, or Westside Logo Black Jacket

  • 8th Grade: Westside Logo Grey Polo Shirt, Westside Logo Grey Shirt, or Westside Logo Grey Jacket

2. Bottoms (Pants and Shorts)

  • Acceptable colors: Black, Navy Blue, Khaki,

  • Pants and shorts must fit securely at the waist.

  • Shorts must be knee-length bermuda style (appropriate for all genders).

The following are NOT permitted:

  • Skirts

  • Jeans

  • Leggings or tights

  • Pajama pants

  • Any pants with rips, tears, or frays

3. Shoes

Students must wear closed-toe shoes with a secure back for safety and mobility.

The following are NOT permitted:

  • Flip-flops

  • Slides

  • Sandals

  • Shower shoes

  • CROCS

  • Slippers

  • Furry Boots

4. Outerwear (Jackets and Sweaters)

  • Students may wear plain zip-up or buttoned jackets or sweaters in their assigned grade-level color (Red, Black, or Grey).

  • Uniform-compliant outerwear with the WMS logo can also be purchased from the uniform store.

  • Hoodies are not permitted on campus by the Duval County Public Schools Code of Student Conduct.

  • Jersey-style shirts or pullovers are not permitted as outerwear.

5. Head Coverings

  • Permitted: Elastic headbands

  • Not Permitted: Hats, hoods, scarves, bandanas, or non-religious headwraps.

Students who require head coverings for religious or medical reasons should request accommodations through school administration.

6. Student Identification (ID Badges)

  • Students must wear or carry their school-issued ID badge at all times and present it when requested by any staff member.

  • The first full ID set is provided free of charge at the start of the year.

Replacement costs are as follows:

  • ID Badge: $5.00

  • Lanyard: $5.00

  • Plastic case: $5.00

7. Backpacks

  • All students must use clear or mesh backpacks as a school-wide safety precaution.

  • Backpacks that are not transparent or mesh will be confiscated and held in the main office for parent pickup.
