Pre-Early College
Pre-Early College affords highly motivated middle school students the opportunity to earn up to four high school credits and college credit. This program provides students with reading enrichment designed to promote success in advanced level courses, postsecondary readiness, and success on Florida's Postsecondary Readiness Assessment (PERT) in Reading. Participation in Pre-Early College may lead to High School Acceleration Programs including Early College, AICE, IB, and AP Capstone. For more information, make an appointment to see the designated PEC point of contact at your middle school. There are no special assignments for PEC. Eligible students may be considered if the program is offered at the middle school they attend.
Eligibility Requirements
Grade 7 PEC Advanced Reading
Proficient standardized test scores
Annual middle school GPA 2.5 or higher
Grade 8 PEC
Proficient standardized test scores in Grade 7
Annual middle school GPA 3.0 or higher
Earn a "C" or better in the 7th Grade PEC Reading Course
Earn a score of 85 or higher on the Reading portion of the Post-Secondary Readiness Education Test (PERT)
Participation in up to four high school courses
Are You Ready for Pre-Early College?
Pre-Early College (PEC) candidates should be mature socially, emotionally, and academically so that they have the skills needed to meet the expectations of the program. PEC candidates are good managers of time and possess good organizational skills. PEC candidates should be willing to ask questions, express concerns, be open to guidance, and balance school and extracurricular activities. PEC candidates should be able to set realistic academic and personal goals and understand the importance of exploring career options. PEC candidates must have the ability to identify key adults at the school and establish connections with peers.
