Stingray Nation Weekly Update Atlantic Coast High School

Hello Stingray Nation!

On April 21st, Atlantic Coast High School will host a FAST/B.E.S.T. Testing Parent Information Night in conjunction with the PTSA and School Advisory Council (SAC) meetings. PTSA will begin at 5:30 p.m., followed by SAC at 6:15 p.m. Parents are invited to visit the media center before, between, or immediately after these meetings to learn more about state assessments, including those required for graduation, and to have any questions answered. Families are also encouraged to stay and participate in the PTSA and SAC meetings.

We are excited to invite you to Atlantic Coast High School’s Inaugural Rays on the Run 5K Fun Run on Saturday, April 25th at 8:00 AM! This special event is open to our entire school community, and we encourage students, families, and friends of all ages to come out and join the fun. The race will begin and end on the football field, followed by a post-run celebration for all participants. Registration is available on GoFan, so be sure to sign up in advance to secure your spot!

Seniors attending Grad Bash- your permission slips are due by Thursday, April 16th. You can turn them in to room 104 on A-days and the media center on B-days. Only hand them to Ms. Solomon, do not hand them to anyone else. Don't forget you have a mandatory rules meeting next week on Monday, April 20th, immediately after school in the auditorium. During this meeting we will discuss rules, dress code, and bag requirements. We will also answer any questions you may have about the trip. This is also when you sign up for buses. Only seniors going on grad bash need to attend this meeting and it will last approximately 1 hour.

Per Dr. George: Grad Bash is currently sold out and no additional tickets are available at this time. However, in the event that a student is no longer able to attend, we will make every effort to fill their spot. If you do not currently have a ticket and would like to be notified if a space becomes available, please complete the Microsoft Form linked HERE. Should a spot open, students on this list will be contacted first.

Seniors- Graduation is upon us! As we approach this exciting milestone, please remember that in order to be a cleared senior, you must meet the following requirements:

  • Earn all required credits

  • Maintain a GPA of 2.0 or higher

  • Pass all required assessments

If you are currently earning any D or F grades, it is critical that you address them immediately. All recovery for seniors is due no later than May 1st. This includes any outstanding FLVS, DVIA, or recovery work with your current teachers. We will be meeting with students who are in danger of not graduating very soon. It is our expectation that you take this time seriously as we approach the end of your high school journey. Stay motivated, remain focused, and continue to be part of Team 100. We are here to support you and fully expect to celebrate each of you as you walk across the stage on May 27th. Let’s finish strong, Stingrays!

Each year, the senior class elects a student speaker to give a speech at Senior Celebration on May 26th. If you are a senior interested in having your name placed on the ballot, please review the information sent to your DCPS student email and posted on OneView. The deadline to submit your name for the nomination window is tonight, Sunday, April 12th.

Don’t forget that you can still make a donation to Project 35 through May 15th. For our senior families, this project also provides an opportunity for seniors to earn additional graduation tickets. A $10 donation earns 1 additional graduation ticket, a $35 donation earns 2 additional graduation tickets. Note that two is the maximum number of additional tickets that can be earned through Project 35. Donations can be made HERE. Thank you for supporting Stingray students and helping us make a positive impact beyond our campus.

You have until April 14th to order a senior yard sign and choose to ship the sign to the school for delivery. You can still order signs after April 14th; however you will only have the option to ship directly to your home after that date. If you choose school delivery, more information about pickup will be shared once the signs arrive. Order here: yardsignwizards.com/acs

As always, if you have any feedback or input on our work here at Atlantic Coast please reach out to the school.
