Alimacani Elementary had the honor of welcoming Navy Captain Russ Bartlett, former Commanding Officer and Flight Leader of the U.S. Navy Blue Angels, for a special visit with our students today.

Captain Bartlett shared stories from his remarkable naval aviation career, including 18 years of flying in the Navy before becoming a Blue Angel, and spoke with students about the preparation, teamwork and commitment required to perform at such an elite level. He also shared some of the history of the Blue Angels, which were established in 1946 in Jacksonville, making his visit especially meaningful for our school community.

A graduate of the U.S. Naval Academy, Captain Bartlett emphasized that success is built on confidence, trust, practice, effort and commitment. Through photos, videos and examples from his time with the Blue Angels, students learned how pilots prepare for demanding performances, including visualizing maneuvers and practicing them mentally before ever taking to the air. He encouraged students to continually work toward improvement, reminding them that excellence does not happen by accident.

His message connected perfectly with Alimacani’s commitment to student success: bring your “A game” every day and always do your best. Whether students are working in the classroom, playing soccer, dancing or pursuing another interest, Captain Bartlett encouraged them to choose something they care about, put in the effort to become better at it, and give it their full commitment. Doing so, he explained, creates opportunities throughout life.

One of the central messages of his presentation was the Blue Angels’ philosophy to “seek perfection and achieve excellence.” Captain Bartlett encouraged students to approach each day with humility, listen, learn, keep trying and continually strive to be better than they were the day before.

The visit concluded with an enthusiastic question-and-answer session, with students eager to learn more about naval aviation and the Blue Angels. Captain Bartlett also spent time interacting with students and posing for class photos, making the experience especially memorable for our Alimacani Chiefs.

We are grateful to Captain Bartlett for sharing his experiences and reinforcing such an important message for our students: success comes from effort, preparation, commitment and doing your best every single day.
