This study hack will work for more than just vocab!
Weak studying
Read the word.
Read the definition.
Read it again.
Highlight it.
Say, "Yeah, I know that."
The problem is that recognizing something when you see it is not the same as being able to retrieve it when you need it.

The "3-2-1" Student Strategy you can use at home!
3 — See It
Read the word, definition, and an example.
2 — Say It
Close the notes and explain the meaning in your own words.
1 — Use It
Create a sentence using the word.
Then come back to the word the next day and try to recall it without looking.
That's only a few minutes per day, but it incorporates retrieval + spacing + application.

Peterson's ACT/SAT Vocab plan is not just about sharing five words per week, but we actually really want our students to LEARN and BE ABLE to USE the vocabulary. To do this, we use three research-backed principles:
Retrieval practice — students must pull the word from memory, not just reread it.
Spacing — revisit words across multiple days rather than cramming.
Elaboration + context — connect the word to meaning, examples, related words, and real situations.
Research consistently finds that retrieval practice and spaced practice outperform passive rereading/highlighting for long-term retention. Vocabulary research also supports combining deliberate word study with meaningful context.

College Planning Starts NOW!
College planning is not something to put off until spring.
Seniors should be actively working on college applications NOW, including identifying application deadlines, completing applications, requesting transcripts and recommendations, writing and revising essays, submitting test scores when required, and researching scholarships and financial aid. If a college offers an early-action or early-admission option, seniors should know those deadlines and work toward submitting strong applications well in advance.
Juniors, this is your time to start exploring! A college fair is a perfect place to begin. You can meet admissions representatives, discover colleges you may not have considered, ask questions about majors, admissions requirements, scholarships and financial aid, and begin building a list of schools that fit your interests and goals.
Register TODAY for the NACAC Jacksonville College Fair at UNF this Saturday, September 26, from 9:00 a.m.–1:00 p.m.
Hundreds of colleges and universities will be represented.
