A message from Dr. Christopher Bernier, DCPS School Superintendent:
Dear Parents,
Among the many characteristics that distinguish us from other school districts is the strength of our accelerated programs. Duval is a state leader in programs that include Dual Enrollment, Career and Technical Education, Advanced Placement, and the International Baccalaureate and Cambridge AICE diploma programs.
We should all be concerned that state legislation is being discussed that could cut the funding for these programs by 50%.
Attached is a one-page fact sheet on this legislation and its potential impact to our district. I am writing to request that you email this with a short note to your parents today. Wednesday is a critical committee hearing, and we need our parents and other stakeholders to understand the implications of this issue. Below are 2 short email templates that you can use for your parents. Choose one of the below or write your own with similar information and feel free to personalize it to your school community, particularly if one or more of the programs being threatened is a significant part of your school’s portfolio.
Please remember that, while these are primarily high school opportunities, the foundations for our excellence in these programs is established in our elementary and middle schools. That’s why this proposed legislation should be a concern to all of us.
Thank you for your assistance as we work to maintain the quality of programs we offer to our students

January Parent Academy

Welcome back and Happy New Year
I would like to welcome everyone back to the second half of the school year. Just wanted to remind you that students return on Tuesday, January 7. We look forward to seeing you at 8:00 am
Enjoy your evening
Happy Holidays from the Wildcat Faculty and Staff!
It's hard to believe that we have come to the end of the second nine weeks! We have completed half of the school year! We wish each of you and your families a Happy Holiday and Happy New Year. We look forward to seeing the students return on January 7, 2025.
Please remember how beneficial I-Ready is for students' academic growth. Here at school we "strive for 45." That means, we want 1st thru 5th grade students to spend at least 45 minutes working in I-Ready Reading as well as in I-Ready Math. Waterford for students in Kindergarten. If you have internet access, please encourage your child to work on the program at home to build skills in reading and math. These programs can be accessed via the blended learning platform at https://www.duvalschools.org/o/dcps/page/student-software
Happy Holidays!

School Consolidation of George Washington Carver and Rufus Payne Postponed
In September, it was recommended that George Washington Carver close at the end of 2024-2025 year due to budget shortfalls across the district. At the November budget School Board meeting, the School Board motion to amend the postponing of the consolidation to the 2026-2027 school year which means our school will remain open until 2026-2027 school year. We were excited to receive the good news.
We would like to thank every parent for your support and your continued support. Dr. Bernier, Duval County Public School Superintendent, has been hosting Town Hall meetings where you can voice your concerns as school closures are being recommended throughout the district. Please check out the upcoming meetings at the link provided https://www.duvalschools.org/article/1909724
