Supporting Talent and Recruiting Teachers (S.T.A.R.T.) Program
The Supporting Talent and Recruiting Teachers (S.T.A.R.T.) Program is a collaborative partnership between Duval County Public Schools and participating colleges, designed to empower dedicated district employees to become certified, highly effective teachers. Focused on critical certification areas—including Early Childhood Education, Exceptional Student Education, Elementary Education (K–6), and Middle Grades Education—this initiative develops homegrown talent to meet the instructional needs of our schools.
S.T.A.R.T. addresses teacher vacancies by preparing exceptional educators who already understand the unique culture, strengths, and challenges of DCPS students and communities.
This two- to four-year program provides Paraprofessionals, UOPD staff, and Civil Service employees with targeted support to complete a state-approved teacher preparation program and meet certification requirements. Participants engage in ongoing professional development while earning their credentials, positioning them for a successful transition into a certified teaching role within DCPS.
