Dear parents and guardians,
Happy Memorial Day Patriots! We are down to two and half days of school remaining. Our 8th graders celebrated their promotion on Friday, and it was a beautiful ceremony in the gym with standing room only. It was wonderful to see you all come out and celebrate your cadets moving to high school. On Thursday, our cadets performed in our annual Memorial Day Ceremony. It was a truly special event with our guest speaker, school board Chair Charlotte Joyce, who is a huge supporter, alum, former teacher of JSMAL. I am super excited about how our cadets have been performing on state assessments. We have surpassed last year’s scores is 4 of 5 areas.
Dress Down Days – Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday are all dress down days this week. These are no cost dress down days. I only ask that your cadet bring us a gently used uniform item (pants, belts, shirts). We use these to restock our uniform closet to help families who struggle to buy uniforms, or when cadets have accidents at school. Please ensure your child is in dress code according to the DCPS code of student conduct.
No backpacks/purses/jackets – Cadets need to leave their backpacks and jackets at home. This is out of an abundance of safety as we close out the school year. Cadets can keep their phones in their pants pockets, but they must be turned off during the school day.
Yearbooks – We still have yearbooks to sell for $45 cash or money order. Ms. McNally will be selling them in the mess hall in the morning and at lunch. If you purchased one online, they were given out on Friday to your cadet. If your cadet did not receive his or hers, please have them see Ms. McNally.
Summer Camp - Our summer camp program is scheduled to run from June 8 through July 17, operating Monday through Friday, from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM. It is a free summer program. I am attaching three flyers: including one for rising 6th, 7th and 8th graders and one for our rising 9th graders.
