Good morning, Ortega parents and families, We are still in need of candy donations for this year's trunk or treat event. Those sponsoring a trunk will bring candy, but with all of our visitors, it goes pretty quickly! Any donations of candy, chips, other snacks (peanut free), or Halloween treats are greatly appreciated! If any businesses would like to donate candy or treats, we will gladly thank them in our monthly newsletter. Thank you all so much for your help!

We have a new date for picture day. That new date is November 18. If you already paid online or sent in payment, those orders will be carried over to November 18. We will send out more information about ordering as we get closer to November 18. Also, just a reminder that we have a Coffee Chat and SAC meeting tomorrow morning at 9. If you are attending and have not sent in your RSVP, please email Mrs. Tibbits (tibbitsm@duvalschools.org) so we have an accurate headcount. Good morning, Ortega Parents, Next week, October 28th- November 1st, kicks off our Red Ribbon week. We look forward to seeing all of our students dress up and participate. Please see the attached flyer for the schedule.

Good morning, Ortega Parents! We are still in need of parents to host trunks for our One School, One Book and Trunk or Treat event on October 30th from 6:00pm until 8:00pm. If you would like to volunteer to host a trunk, please email me at Taylort10@duvalschools.org. If you are unable to host a trunk, we are also accepting candy donations to help supply our volunteers with candy to pass out to students. Anything helps! Thank you so much for your support!

Beginning in November, every Tuesday, Technology Services will be available to distribute free ECF laptops to any student enrolled in a traditional DCPS school. This includes students who have already been assigned a laptop from school. This will be a secondary device the students can keep at home for school use. See the details below! WHAT: Free laptop for all DCPS students! No registration necessary!* *Wait times may be shorter if ECF survey is completed in advance, but not necessary. Ortega Families, No cost school and sports physicals will be available on October 23, 2024, at the Westside Family Resource Center on Wheat Road from 9:00am to 1:00pm. This year our students are earning House Points based on their behavior and good choices at school. Then they will have the opportunity to spend these points in our shop. We need your help to stock our shop with treats for the students to purchase. Please view our wish list via the attached QR code and make a purchase if you are able to do so. We greatly appreciate your help! We also accept any donations of bags of chips, Takis, individually wrapped candy and snacks, and small toys. Thank you! Good Afternoon Ortega Families, The City of Jacksonville is mobilizing in response to the impending threat of potential hurricane Helene. In response to the safety threat posed by the storm and the City’s need for shelters: Duval County Public Schools will cease normal operations for students at the conclusion of the early release school day, Wednesday, Sept. 24. There will be no school Thursday 9/26 or Friday 9/27. Afterschool Programs and Athletics: Extended day programs will remain open for normal hours on Wednesday; however, parents and guardians will be encouraged to pick up their children early. All after school activities and athletics scheduled for Wednesday afternoon through Friday, Sept. 27 are canceled. After the storm passes, we will decide when athletics practices and contests can resume. Facilities Preparations and Shelters: District teams are already preparing campuses for the storm following normal procedures. We are preparing to open shelters at the following schools: LaVilla Middle School of the Arts · Atlantic Coast High School · Landmark Middle School · Chaffee Trail Elementary School Potential shelter guests should visit [www.jaxready.com/helene]www.jaxready.com/Helene for specific shelter information . Good Afternoon Ortega Families and Partners, We have been recognized by the FLPBIS: MTSS Project as a 2023-2024 PBIS Model School! Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS) is a 3-tiered evidence-based prevention framework that leads to reduced exclusionary discipline and improved student and teacher outcomes when fully implemented. By establishing PBIS, we are developing skills, enhancing our school environment, acknowledging appropriate behavior, and using data to identify supports for all of our students and teachers. As a PBIS Model School, we are committed to the effective implementation of PBIS and are seeking positive outcomes for all!

Good morning Ortega Families, If you have not already, please be sure to sign and turn in your child's green permission slip as soon as possible. This permission slip covers most students activities for the first half of the school year. Students will not be able to participate in these fun activities without a signed slip. If you have misplaced your permission slip, please let your child's teacher know so that they can send home another one. Thanks so much!
