Students painting a canvas

The Sandalwood High School Art Club has created these “teaching murals” to share and generate a conversation around the importance of learning in each discipline. In designing and creating these murals, the art club students first collaborated with teachers and students from core disciplines to generate a list of important topics. Next, the art club, under the direction of their sponsor Adair Hinds, designed 5'x4' murals on professional canvases, sketching various elements gathered from their collaboration and work with each subject. Finally, the art club students incorporated the final designs of the teaching murals, combining drawing and painting elements together into cohesive visual compositions. They were completed 100% by students.

During the 2025-2026 school year, Sandalwood Art Club students created teaching murals about US History, Fine Arts, and HOPE. During the 2026-2027 school year, they will work on Science, Math, and English. It is the goal that these murals will teach people about the importance of learning in each of the core areas we teach. It also shows how the power of art can bring people together and elevate learning.
