TEACHER BECOMES FOSTER CAREGIVER – This Team Duval Shoutout celebrates the generosity that Southside Middle School teacher Whitney Greenwell demonstrated to a former student in need. Greenwell, upon hearing that she needed a place to stay, became a temporary foster caregiver. Colleague Liz Lawrence shares more: “During those months, Ms. Greenwell provided safety, structure, and steady support, took her to college orientation, moved her into her dorm, and stayed closely involved in helping her prepare for her next chapter. They remain connected and plan to celebrate the holidays together, showing the lasting impact a caring teacher can have and how one compassionate decision can change a life.” Thank you, Ms. Greenwell, for going the extra mile to demonstrate kindness!

FREE EVENT - In partnership with Greenfield Elementary and Feeding Northeast Florida, Southside Middle School is participating with Feeding Northeast Florida in their brand-new Grocery Game!

Students can test their grocery shopping and budgeting skills. Southside Middle School Families are welcome to participate in this event. The event will be held at Greenfield Elementary on December 11 at 5:30 pm.

There are only 40 spots available -- register today!
(One registration per student participant.)

THE 2ND ANNUAL CTE CAREER ACADEMY SHOWCASE – You're invited to this free community event where Duval’s educators and students shine! Highlighting all 67 of the district’s Career and Technical Education (CTE) Academies and programs, this event offers students and teachers a platform to share their innovative work with families and the broader community. Attendees will have the opportunity to engage with academy staff and students, explore the unique programs offered across the district, and receive expert guidance from CTE staff on navigating the application process. No advanced registration is required. This event takes place Saturday, Nov. 1, from 9:00 a.m. to noon at the Adam W. Herbert University Center at the University of North Florida. The address is 12000 Alumni Drive, Jacksonville, FL 32224

🚨 Mark your calendars because next week Monday 1/27 to Friday 1/31 is Literacy Week! 📖 Students will have the opportunity to participate in literacy-based learning, activities, and contests during school. 📕 🌟 The goal of this year’s Celebrate Literacy Week, Florida! is to inspire a love of reading and writing while strengthening literacy skills in the students of Florida.
