For todays black history appreciation, we’re diving into the life of Jessie Fauset who was born in 1882 and defined her life with a tireless dedication to literature, education, and editing. She worked to explore feminism, racial discrimination, and “passing” while writing to portray her black characters as mature, intelligent, and professional. After attending Cornell University and getting a Masters in French she was employed by W.E.B DuBois at the NAACPs “the crisis” magazine which let her promote the works and nurture the careers of black writers. After her tenure working for the magazine, she taught at the Dewitt Clinton high school inspiring young minds for years.
