The JROTC program at William M. Raines Senior High School, proudly known as the Viking Battalion, develops students through leadership, discipline, service, citizenship, and academic excellence under the leadership of Col. John McKay.

The battalion continues to achieve excellence, earning a 97.25% JROTC Program Assessment score, the highest among Army JROTC schools in Duval County and third highest in North Florida, and recognition as an Honor Unit with Distinction.

This past summer at JCLC at Camp Shands, four of Raines’ 14 cadets ranked among the top 10% of 288 cadets, including one Distinguished Honor Graduate and three Honor Graduates.

The Viking Battalion also logged 128 hours of community service, participated in a September 11 remembrance ceremony at Southside Estates Elementary, and established the Raider Hall of Fame to honor outstanding former cadets.

Through leadership, service, and achievement, the Viking Battalion continues to represent Raines with excellence and pride.

Viking Battalion, Building Leaders. Developing Character. Serving with Pride.
