William M. Raines Career and Technical Education
Career and Technical Education provides the initial opportunity for students to explore career options in a setting that takes into account the broad range of every student's needs - from career guidance and counseling to course work that stresses the academic and occupational applications of the subject.
The mission of the Career and Technical Education Department is to provide opportunities for all students to learn through the integration of academic content and career and technical skills to become life-long learners, employable and productive citizens who can adapt to a rapidly changing and highly technological global community.
We currently offer 2 programs at Raines:

Students who complete a program may apply for the Florida Bright Futures GSV (Gold Seal Vocational) Scholarship!
Raines is proud to be among 14 CTE Academies in Duval County Public Schools to earn Master Accreditation Status out of 63 academies districtwide.
These academies provide students with opportunities to explore career interests, develop industry-relevant skills, and prepare for future careers and postsecondary success. Both programs demonstrated a strong commitment to innovation, continuous improvement, and student achievement.
Both academies met the established accreditation standards and were affirmed by JAXUSA Partnership through industry-informed reviews, stakeholder interviews, and expert feedback, helping ensure students receive meaningful, workforce-aligned learning experiences.
Information Technology
The Information Technology Academy is led by Donna Brovich-Kennison.
The IT industry is the backbone of today’s digital society, driving innovation and connectivity across all sectors. In introductory level courses, students learn simple programming with tools like Scratch or Python, how computers work, and practice safe and responsible use of the internet.
High school students further develop their skills by diving into more complex topics. They might learn programming languages like Java or C++, work with databases, create websites, or develop mobile apps. Programs also focus on cybersecurity, including how to keep networks safe and the basics of ethical hacking.
Through hands-on projects, students apply their coding, design, and problem-solving skills. These courses help prepare them for college studies in computer science or related fields and for jobs in IT.

Culinary Arts Program
The Raines Culinary Arts Academy is led by Devette McCain.
Culinary Arts involves the preparation, cooking, and presentation of a variety of foods. Courses prepare students for employment or advanced training in the food service industry. From mastering basic cooking techniques to creating gourmet dishes, students can learn and sharpen skills related to food handling, safety and sanitation, recipe creation and conversion, nutrition, and much more.
