CELEBRATING SCHOOL COUNSELORS — Team Duval is proud to recognize National School Counseling Week and the incredible impact our more than 240 school counselors make every single day. They advocate for students, help them navigate their academic journeys, and guide them toward their goals. Our success as an A-rated district with a 97.6% graduation rate would not be possible without these dedicated professionals. As part of this special week, dozens of counselors gathered at the Schultz Center for their annual conference, focused on building student “superpowers” like grit and resilience – perfectly aligned with the national theme of helping students thrive and preparing them for college, career, and life. Their commitment to growing their own “superpowers” directly fuels student success across Team Duval. Join us in thanking our outstanding school counselors for the lasting difference they make in our schools and community!

Greetings Falcon Families,

This is Principal Mungin with your weekly update.

I hope you and your family had a great Memorial Day weekend as we honor those who gave the ultimate sacrifice for our country.

Parents, thank you for an incredible school year. We could not do this work without your support and partnership. As we continue transitioning into Jacksonville STEM Academy, we are looking for parent advocates who are willing to help spread the word about the amazing things happening on our campus. If you are interested in supporting our recruitment and outreach efforts, please contact Principal Mungin.

Parents, please remember that Thursday, May 28 is the last day of school, and dismissal will be at 12:25 PM. Students should not bring electronics such as iPads or tablets, toys, stuffed animals, footballs, or basketballs. Our teachers have created meaningful instruction that will continue through the final day of school.

Positive Parenting Coaching Tip

Research shows that students who continue structured learning activities during the summer retain more academic growth and transition back to school more successfully. Encourage your child to maintain a daily routine that includes reading, writing, physical activity, and limited educational screen time. Even 20 to 30 minutes of reading each day can significantly improve vocabulary, comprehension, and academic confidence.

Last Day of School

The last day of school is May 28. Dismissal will be at 12:25 PM.

Sports Banquet

Our Sports Banquet will be held tomorrow at 2:00 PM. Students participating were given 2 tickets for the event.

Career Fair

Our Career Fair will be held tomorrow from 9:00 AM to 11:00 AM.

Good evening, 8th Grade Families,

Tomorrow is the moment our 8th grade students have been waiting for, and I know our families have been waiting for it as well. We are excited to celebrate our students and recognize this important milestone as they prepare for their next chapter.

Our 8th Grade Promotional Ceremony will begin tomorrow at 9:30 AM sharp. Students must arrive at school by 8:05 AM and should be dressed appropriately for the ceremony.

Please note that students who arrive after 9:15 AM will miss the lineup and will not be able to participate in the ceremony entrance. All participating students must be on campus and on time.

Parents and guests, please remember that all guests must have a ticket to enter. When you arrive, please give your ticket to one of our staff members. Staff will collect the ticket stub, and you will keep the commemorative Jacksonville STEM Academy first 8th grade class ticket.

Parents and guests should be seated before 9:30 AM. No one will be admitted during the student processional.

All balloons, flowers, celebratory posters, and similar items must remain outside of the school.

If you are checking out your student before the ceremony, this must be completed before 9:15 AM. Students checked out before 9:15 AM will receive a wristband. After 9:15 AM, students must be checked out after the ceremony.

To check out a student, the person picking up the student must be authorized on the student’s blue card and must have a state-issued ID.

Thank you for your cooperation, support, and partnership. We look forward to celebrating our 8th grade Falcons tomorrow. It is going to be a great day to be a Falcon!

Good evening, 8th Grade Parents,

We are excited to celebrate our students at the promotional ceremony on Friday, May 22, at 9:30 AM.

We still have some parents who have not picked up their child’s promotional ceremony tickets. Someone will be available tomorrow to issue tickets until 5:00 PM. Please make every effort to pick up your tickets by that time.

Due to the logistical needs of preparing for the program and supporting students on Friday morning, we will not be able to issue tickets the morning of the ceremony.

As a reminder, each student receives 3 tickets. This message is regarding ticket pick-up only, not the number of tickets issued. If you are having difficulty picking up your tickets, please reach out, and I will be happy to try to help facilitate pick-up.

If you plan to check your student out after the ceremony, please remember to bring a state-issued ID. The person picking up the student must also be listed in FOCUS as authorized to pick up your child.

Thank you for your cooperation and partnership. We look forward to seeing you on Friday as we celebrate our 8th grade Falcons.

Falcon Family Weekly Update

Quarter 4, Week 7

Greetings Falcon Families,
This is Principal Mungin with your weekly update.

I hope you and your family are having a great weekend. Our Falcons are approaching the end of testing and the end of the school year, and we are proud of the effort students showed during Reading and Math testing this past week. Our students are showing what they are made of. We now have 13 school days remaining in the school year. Let’s finish strong and earn our B school grade.
Parents, let’s continue to triple our efforts during testing season to ensure our students are in the right mindset each day.

Testing Schedule
Tuesday, May 12 Science Grade 8
Wednesday, May 13 Civics

Please make sure your student is well rested and arrives to school on time each day. On time is 8:05 AM. Your encouragement and support at home are critical during this time. Students may dress down on testing days.

Parents, please continue supporting your student’s academics. Grade level performance is defined as earning a Level 3 or higher on state assessments. These results directly impact a student’s ability to access advanced coursework, including high school classes taken while enrolled in middle school. Courses such as Algebra I provide pathways to accelerated academic opportunities and future success.

FAST Testing Support
Parents can support students by ensuring they
Get a full night of sleep
Arrive at school on time each day
Maintain positive study habits
Attend school consistently
Use all the time provided during testing

Our goal is to earn a B school grade, and achieving this requires a strong partnership between students, staff, and families.

Positive Parenting Coaching Tip
Research shows that positive reinforcement before testing improves student confidence and performance. Encourage your child by focusing on effort, preparation, and growth rather than pressure or fear of results. Students who feel supported and emotionally encouraged are more likely to remain calm, focused, and resilient during testing.

Attendance Matters
Our current attendance rate is 88.4 percent, a slight increase from last week. We must continue this upward trend. Every instructional minute matters, and consistent attendance is critical to student success, especially during testing season.

Last Day of School

Teacher Appreciation Week
Thank you for helping make Teacher Appreciation Week special for our staff. Our teachers truly felt the love and support shown throughout the week.

Falcon Family Weekly Update

Quarter 4, Week 3

Greetings Falcon Families,

This is Principal Mungin with your weekly update.

I hope you enjoyed this beautiful Sunday. As summer draws near, we have 16 school days remaining before we embark on our monumental task of earning a school grade of B. This work is not done only in the classroom; it is cultivated across all aspects of a student’s life.

Parents, you are the catalyst that sparks motivation, and we provide the educational fuel to power student intellect. Please talk with your students each day about the importance of doing their absolute best on the FAST and B.E.S.T. EOCs—no pun intended.

Parents, please continue to support your student’s academic goals. To be considered on grade level, students must earn a Level 3 or higher on state assessments. These results directly impact high school course placement and advanced opportunities at Jacksonville STEM Academy.

Students earning a Level 1 will be scheduled into remedial courses, which may replace elective options. Test scores help us determine the right level of support for each student, ensuring they are positioned for success.

FAST Testing Information

State testing for Language Arts, Math, 8th Grade Science, Civics, and Algebra I begins May 5th.

Positive Parenting Coaching Tip
As we approach state testing, help your student practice focus and stamina. Set a timer for 20–30 minutes at home and have them complete reading or problem-solving tasks without distractions. This builds the endurance students need to stay focused during longer testing sessions.

Greetings Falcon Families,

This is Principal Mungin with your weekly update.

Momentum is building as we move closer to our FAST testing cycle, and while I know the summer countdown has started for our students, we still have important work to complete together. With your support, we can finish strong.

Testing begins May 5th.

Parents, please support your student’s academic goals. To be considered on grade level for FAST and B.E.S.T. EOCs, students must earn a Level 3 or higher. These results directly impact high school course placement and advanced opportunities at Jacksonville STEM Academy.

Students earning a Level 1 will be scheduled into remedial courses, which may replace elective options. Test scores are important because they help us determine the right level of support for each student. This ensures every student is positioned for success.

FAST Testing Information
State testing for Language Arts, Math, 8th Grade Science, Civics, and Algebra I begins May 5th.

Parents can support students by ensuring they:
• Get a full night of sleep
• Arrive at school on time each day
• Maintain positive study habits
• Attend school consistently
• Encourage students to do their best and use all the time provided during testing

Our goal is to earn a B school grade, and achieving this requires a strong partnership between students, staff, and families.

Positive Parenting Coaching Tip
One of the most effective ways to support academic growth is through simple peer-style conversations at home. Ask your child to “teach you” something they learned that day. When students explain their thinking out loud, it strengthens understanding, builds confidence, and helps them retain information for testing.

Saturday Tutoring – FAST PM3 Push
Saturday tutoring will continue on April 11th as we prepare for PM3 testing. Invited students are strongly encouraged to attend.

Attendance Matters
Our current attendance rate is 87.9%, a decrease from last month. We need this number to increase during Quarter 4. Every instructional minute matters, and consistent attendance is key to student achievement.

Sports Update
• Baseball vs Gilbert – Today, April 8th at 5:30 PM (Scott Park)
• Track Meet at Westside Middle vs Oceanway – Tuesday @ 5:00 PM
• Swim Meet at Westside Middle (Lakeshore Pool) Tuesday@ – 5:00 PM

Reading Challenge Reminder
