Leon Mungin
Principal Mungin counts it as a privilege to lead the students and staff of The Leadership Academy. Raised in Jacksonville and a proud Raines High School graduate, Mr. Mungin began his professional journey serving in the United States Coast Guard before dedicating his career to education. Over the past 22 years, Mungin has served Duval County Public Schools as a science teacher, district supervisor, assistant principal, and for the last 5 years, acting principal.
Guided by a simple belief, "If you build it, they will come", Principal Mungin leads with high expectations, a commitment to top-notch instruction, and deep pride in the students of the Northside. With strong academics, character, and determination, Falcons are prepared to soar—opening doors to opportunities across the city, the state, and the world. Principal Mungin believes hard work and determination empowers every student to fly.

Dr. Ruth J. Knight
Dr. Jackson-Knight is a proud Jacksonville native and a product of Duval County Public Schools, graduating from Andrew Jackson Senior High School. She earned a bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice from Bethune-Cookman College (now Bethune-Cookman University) and a master’s degree in Educational Leadership from Columbia University.
Before entering education, she worked as an auditor with the Jacksonville Housing Authority and transitioned into the classroom through the University of Florida’s Lastinger Program. Jackson-Knight's educational journey began in 2008 at Long Branch Elementary, where they taught 4th-grade math and science for three years. Over the past 18 years, she has served DCPS as a school-based Science Coach, District Science Specialist, and Project CRISS Specialist.
Dr. Jackson-Knight believes students learn best when educators set the tone for a motivated, engaging learning environment. Their goal is to help students see the value of learning and its connection to everyday life, encouraging active participation and ownership of the learning process. She believes every scholar should remember: “Your purpose is greater than your challenge!”
