Preventative Oral Health Program is Coming Soon! Florida Department of Health in Duval County  Preventive Oral Health Program  Dear Parent/Legal Guardian:  Don Brewer Elementary School will soon be visited by the Children's Mobile Dental Unit as an effort of The Florida Department of Health in Duval County, to provide preventive dental services to students. All children ages 1 through 20 are eligible for the services at no cost to the parent. Permission is required from one parent or legal guardian before your child can take part in this program.  The goal of this program is to teach each child how to properly clean his/her teeth, provide a dental assessment, prophy (dental cleaning), oral hygiene instructions, fluoride treatment and place protective sealants, if needed. Dental sealants are tooth-colored protective coatings on the chewing surfaces of healthy back teeth that act as a barrier to prevent cavities. Sealants are approved and recommended by the American Dental Association. Your child may be chosen to be reevaluated next year for sealant retention and sealant(s) may be reapplied at the follow-up visit.  A licensed dentist or dental hygienist from the Florida Department of Health in Duval County will provide an assessment of your child's teeth. Your child will not be given any sedatives, shots, medications or x-rays.  This program is for educational and preventive purposes only.  After your child is treated, a letter will be sent home describing what was done and what follow-up care is needed.  This program should not replace a complete dental check-up in a dental office.  IF YOU WOULD LIKE YOUR CHILD TO BE SEEN BY THE  DENTAL PROGRAM, PLEASE COMPLETE ALL THE  INFORMATION PROVIDED BY CLICKING ON THE FILE BELOW FOR THE FORM, DOWNLOADING IT, AND RETURNING IT TO YOUR CHILD'S TEACHER.   If you have any difficulty downloading and/or printing the form out, please contact the Main Office at: 904-745-4990. Thank You!

Good morning Bobcat Nation! So much awesomeness is going on at Don Brewer Elementary! Prior to being interrupted by Mother Nature, we began our House Meetings on our first early release day in September! Our school is divided into 4 Houses: Amistad (The Friends), Reveur (The Dreamers), Isibindi (The Courageous), and Altruismo (The Givers). The houses make up smaller communities within Bobcat Nation, for students to socialize and learn from each other across all grades and classes. Each house represents different traits, traditions, and history. The House System helps students to: - Build character and school-wide community- provides opportunities for students to socialize with peers outside of their classes and with positive adult role models beyond just their classroom teachers - Provide youth leadership opportunities - Promote a culture of constructive competition - students learn how to be team players, contribute their efforts toward a group, and learn that those who working hard and stick with it are often the ones rewarded Ask which House YOUR student is in! These images are from the first Amistad House Meeting! Looking forward to providing more exciting news and pictures from ALL of the amazing things happening at Don Brewer!
