June 26, 2026 – Team Duval is delivering clear results across the board for students, according to data released today by the Florida Department of Education.
Proficiency rates in a majority of the 21 tested areas either improved or were maintained as the district continues to outperform the state in Geometry and U.S. History while also narrowing the gap with the state in English Language Arts and math.
“I am encouraged by these results,” said Superintendent Dr. Christopher Bernier. “In this data, we see an upward trend toward greater learning outcomes and subject proficiency for our students. These early results reflect the hard work of our Team Duval students, teachers, administrators, families, and School Board. Once again, Duval Delivers.”
The data — results of the Florida Assessment of Student Thinking (FAST) progress monitoring assessments and Benchmarks for Excellent Student Thinking (BEST) assessments —show strong gains in reading, math, science, and end-of-course assessments. Highlights include:
Reading
Proficiency for all assessed grades (3–10) either increased or was maintained.
Grades 6 and 8 saw the largest gains, each increasing by 7 percentage points compared to last year.
Math
Proficiency for all assessed grades (3–8) increased.
Grade 8 showed the largest gain, increasing by 6 percentage points.
Science
Grade 5 proficiency increased by 4 percentage points, while Grade 8 increased by 6 percentage points.
End-of-Course (EOC) Assessments
Proficiency in all EOC assessments increased or was maintained.
Algebra and U.S. History showed the largest gains, each increasing by 4 percentage points.
Duval County continues to outperform the state in Geometry and U.S. History.
“We are pleased with the story this assessment window demonstrates,” said Dr. Bernier. “Data points and trends — whether upward or downward — reveal areas that need attention and focus.”
