Why Stephanie Jenkins Choose Duval County Public Schools

From Duval student to science teacher, Stephanie Jenkins brings discovery to Arlington Middle

A science lesson can introduce students to a place they have never visited. In Stephanie Jenkins’ classroom at Arlington Middle School, hands-on activities help bring those places within reach.

For Jenkins, teaching means creating a space where students feel comfortable asking questions, exploring ideas and discovering more about the world around them. Along the way, she shares in their excitement.

“I actually have a ton of fun. It’s incredible,” Jenkins said. “We do a lot of hands-on activities. You get to experience being a kid all over again.”

But the moments that tell her a lesson is making a difference come when students begin making connections of their own.

“So when they start asking more questions about the world that they see around them… compared to what we try to bring into the classroom… that is when I know I have the kids,” Jenkins said.

That connection is personal. A former Duval County Public Schools student, Jenkins now helps provide the encouragement and opportunities she experienced growing up. Returning as an educator has given her a new perspective on the people who support students each day.

“Working for Duval County is probably the best experience I’ve had… being a product of it, starting in it, seeing how all the teachers and the admin and the district personnel actually pour into the students,” Jenkins said.

Now, she carries that commitment into her own classroom, helping the next generation build confidence one question and one discovery at a time.
