Greetings Mamie Agnes Jones Families!
We have made it through the first week of school and we are so excited to have our students back in the building! During this first week, we reviewed rituals and routines, had our code of conduct assemblies, and even had our first fire drill!
We appreciate your patience and understanding as we worked through our power outages. The district has implemented a temporary solution to get us through as the permanent repairs are being completed and will be back to “business as usual” on Monday!
Thank you also for your patience through the first few days of dismissal as everyone gets used to the routine. As a reminder, changes in dismissal must be made by the parent or guardian through the PikMyKid app.
Our first School Advisory Council Meeting for this school year will be held this Monday, August 17th at 4:45 PM in room 8. Agenda items include a review of our bylaws and School Improvement Plan. Anyone is welcome to attend our SAC meetings and we would love to have you come to learn more about what we are doing and to get your feedback and input on how we can continue to improve.
Looking ahead, our patrols will be sponsoring the “Back to School Bash” on Friday, August 28th after school. Flyers with information on purchasing tickets will be going home with students this week. All ticket sales will be completed online and no money will be collected at the school.
Our fall Scholastic book fair will be happening the week of August 31st – September 4th. Bookfair flyers will be sent home in advance to review with your child.
Please mark your calendars and make plans to attend our Open House which will take place on Thursday, September 3rd beginning at 6:00 PM. We will hold our Title I Annual Meeting at 5:30 PM the same night. Attendees for the Title I meeting will have first entry to Open House! The book fair will also be open that evening for families to go and shop!
Thank you for partnering with us in your child’s education here at Mamie Agnes Jones as we “Dive Deep into Learning!”

Good evening Mamie Agnes Jones Families, This is Principal Kirkland with an update on the situation with our electrical and AC issues. The DCPS maintenance department has been working all day troubleshooting and have been able to determine the problem. Unfortunately, the part(s) needed are not readily available, and we will likely continue through tomorrow with power issues in our front building. In order to avoid students and staff spending the day with power and AC going in and out, we have put together a plan for all classes to move into the back building. Some classes will buddy up with another class and others will move into resource classrooms. This will be for tomorrow only. If the necessary repairs cannot be made by Monday, there is a plan to provide alternate power to allow us to operate normally again. We greatly appreciate your patience, understanding and support. Kind regards, Principal Kirkland

📢 Pop Tabs for a Purpose! 🎗️
This summer, we are encouraging all of our students and families to collect aluminum can tabs to support Ronald McDonald House Charities! Every little tab helps make a big difference for families in need.
Please save tabs from soda cans, soup cans, energy drinks, and other aluminum containers all summer long. Students can bring their collected tabs to school during the SECOND WEEK of school.
Let’s work together to show how caring and generous our Mamie Agnes Jones Elementary family can be! ❤️🤍🎗️

STUDENT COUNCIL STRENGTHENS COMMUNITY – Congratulations to the student council at Mamie Agnes Jones Elementary School, who have earned a Team Duval Shoutout for their outstanding leadership and strong commitment to community service. Student council sponsor Mr. Parker shared that he is truly blown away by the students’ heart for giving back and their dedication to making a positive impact. Recently, members of the student council organized a meaningful initiative to donate food and supplies to the Jacksonville Humane Society. During their visit, students not only contributed essential items, but also had the opportunity to learn more about the organization’s mission and the important work it does within the community. They spent time interacting with the animals and even reading to them, helping to provide comfort and calm. This experience prepared students to become active and responsible citizens in their local community, while emphasizing the importance of civic engagement and service. The Mamie Agnes Jones Student Council has set an excellent example of compassion, leadership, and community involvement—great job!
