CELEBRATING SCHOOL COUNSELORS — Team Duval is proud to recognize National School Counseling Week and the incredible impact our more than 240 school counselors make every single day. They advocate for students, help them navigate their academic journeys, and guide them toward their goals. Our success as an A-rated district with a 97.6% graduation rate would not be possible without these dedicated professionals. As part of this special week, dozens of counselors gathered at the Schultz Center for their annual conference, focused on building student “superpowers” like grit and resilience – perfectly aligned with the national theme of helping students thrive and preparing them for college, career, and life. Their commitment to growing their own “superpowers” directly fuels student success across Team Duval. Join us in thanking our outstanding school counselors for the lasting difference they make in our schools and community!

I am excited to share that we are continuing to prepare for the construction of the brand-new Venetia Elementary School. Our new school is scheduled to open in fall 2028. This new building will be on the same school site, and construction will begin during next school year.
While the new school is being constructed, Venetia will hold school in the current Hyde Grove Elementary School building (2056 Lane Ave S. Jacksonville, FL 32210). This means beginning in August 2026, students enrolled in Venetia will report to the Hyde Grove Elementary building for school. Students enrolled in Hyde Grove will attend school at neighboring schools beginning in August 2026.
Please see below FAQs that will answer some of your questions. I will continue to keep you informed as things develop.
1. When will the temporary transition occur?
a. The temporary transition will occur in August 2026.
2. Can I see the temporary space?
a. The transition of the school and offices will take place over the summer. School leadership will schedule tours for families to see the space in the spring; monitor your emails for updates.
3. How do I enroll my student during the transition process?
a. Since your student is currently enrolled at Venetia, they will continue to be enrolled at the school. Nothing more is needed!
Incoming Kindergartners: If you have a new kindergarten student for next school year, you can visit the front office of Venetia to enroll.
4. Are my students required to wear uniforms? If so, where do I purchase the uniforms?
a. Venetia does not require uniforms for students. Please view the student dress code on the school website for information on our dress code.
5. How do I register my student for the bus? When will the bus routes be provided?
a. Bus registration for 2026-27 will open in the spring and it will take less than five minutes. You will find the bus registration form in the parent FOCUS account when it is launched. Visit the bus registration webpage for easy step-by-step directions. You will also receive further information on transportation as we get closer to the enrollment date.
REMEMBER - You will need a Linked Parent Account to register for a bus. You can create one online, but Venetia staff can also assist you with creating an account.
Please contact the Transportation Department at (904) 858-6200 if you have any questions.
6. Does the school have a before/aftercare program? How do I enroll?
a. Yes, Venetia has an extended day program. The program includes structured activities geared to your child’s grade level. These enrichment activities include but are not limited to art, science, health, gym, outside time, homework time, and special events. Visit Venetia’s extended day website for hours, fees, and more information.
7. Will my student receive free breakfast and lunch?
a. Yes.
8. What will the school hours be?
a. The school hours for Venetia are 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.
9. Will there be other schools on the Hyde Grove campus?
a. No. Venetia will be the only school to operate on the Hyde Grove campus. Students previously zoned for Hyde Grove will be attending their new school home, Hyde Park Elementary.
10. When is the new school expected to open?
a. The new Venetia Elementary School campus is expected to open in August 2028, in time for the 2028-29 school year.
11. What if I don’t want my student to attend Venetia while it is operating at Hyde Grove? What are my options?
a. Duval County Public Schools is a choice district, so you may apply to have your student attend any school in the district. Through the Controlled Open Enrollment process, you can apply to schools that have remaining seats. Visit the Controlled Open Enrollment webpage to begin. You can see information about other schools on our elementary school webpage.
