Reminders and updates for the week of September 15th:

We had a wonderful week on the Trail!

✅ The Health Department visited and began administering flu vaccines to the first group of students whose parents signed them up. They will return this week to provide vaccines to the remaining students on the list.

✅ Students also participated in vision and hearing screenings last week.

✅ The Dental Van made a visit as well! They will return later this month to see any students who signed up but were not able to be seen during the last visit.

🎉 Our PTA also hosted Grandparent Bingo, which was a huge success with more than 250 guests in attendance! Events like this truly showcase the strength of our school community.

You can show your support for continued family events and student incentives in two ways:

Join PTA and help us grow our membership.

Support our schoolwide Charleston Wrap fundraiser. There’s still time to get orders in this week!

These fun opportunities are made possible by our PTA and the funds raised through events like Charleston Wrap. We need your help to keep them going strong.

A big thank you to Mr. Nelson and our PTA for coordinating these important and exciting experiences for our students and families.

Looking Ahead to a New Week

As we begin a new week, we ask that you take time to talk with your child about the importance of following our school Code of Conduct. These expectations are in place to ensure everyone’s safety and to help us maintain a positive, focused learning environment. Working together, we can help all students make good choices that allow them and their classmates to thrive.

Each week, students bring home a folder with their homework. Please review this folder with your child so you are aware of what they are working on in class. This will also give you the opportunity to recognize if your child may need additional support at home or from their teacher.

Thank you for partnering with us to support both the academic growth and the positive learning environment we want for every student at our school.

One of the most important values we can instill in our children is the importance of showing up on time. Punctuality not only builds responsibility but also ensures that students are fully engaged in their learning each day.

When students arrive late, they miss out on valuable academic supports and new instruction. Those lost minutes add up quickly and can create gaps in learning that are difficult to close. The same is true for early checkouts—when students leave before the end of the day, they miss important instruction and activities that support their success.

We ask that you help your child by modeling the importance of punctuality and regular attendance. Every minute counts, and your efforts to have students at school on time each day make a big difference in their achievement.

Thank you for working with us to ensure all students have the best opportunity to learn and grow. We hope you have a great week.... we will see all of students back tomorrow where will Buz with purpose and Bloom with Mustang P.R.I.D.E!

SAC second Thursday of the month.

To all those future astronomers - Do you love stargazing! Tonight would be a great night to share with your children. Over the next 2 evenings the moon will be a show stopper.
Skywatchers across the globe are in for a rare double delight this September. On the nights of September 7 and 8, the Moon will undergo a total lunar eclipse, often called a Blood Moon or Chandra Grahan, painting the sky with a deep red glow. The phenomenon happens when Earth positions itself perfectly between the Sun and the Moon, causing its shadow to fall across the lunar surface. Before the Moon turns crimson, stargazers will also be treated to the Corn Moon, September’s full moon. In 2025, this full moon coincides with the eclipse, making the spectacle even more memorable. The Corn Moon will rise on the evening of September 7. This is your chance to catch the moon in all its glory before it undergoes the lunar eclipse. The Harvest Moon, which is the full moon closest to the September equinox, comes a month later on October 6. ~Story by Kanishka Singharia

To view the eclipse see the link below to stream it!

Everyday Heroes

Good Evening,

We hope your week is off to a wonderful start—hard to believe we’re already halfway through!

We’d like to take a moment to inform you of an important update regarding district procedures for entering the school building. As part of our continued commitment to safety, all visitors will now be required to follow a new entry protocol.

Visitor Safety Procedures:

Valid Identification Required: All visitors must present a valid photo ID (e.g., driver’s license, state ID, or passport) upon entering any school campus. Access will not be granted without a valid ID.

Brief Screening Questions: Visitors will be asked a few questions regarding the purpose of their visit to ensure a safe and secure environment.

Individual Entry Protocol: To maintain compliance with these procedures, please do not hold the door open for others entering behind you. Each visitor must check in individually at the front office.

Badge Pass Sticker: Upon check-in, your valid ID will be used to issue a badge pass sticker, which must be worn visibly at all times on campus. Failure to display the sticker will result in being asked to leave.

Please use this link to see more info on this new process.
https://vimeo.com/1115252084

We appreciate your understanding and cooperation as we implement these changes to ensure the safety and well-being of everyone in our school community.

Reminders for the Week of August 18, 2025

Mustang Families,

We are excited to kick off week two of Buzzing with Purpose, Blooming with Mustang P.R.I.D.E.! Thank you for a wonderful start to the school year. Please review the following important reminders for this week:

Blue Folder Information: Last week, information was sent home in the blue folder on Tuesday and Friday. Please review these handouts carefully—they include details about upcoming events as. Each Tuesday you will receive the folder with the weekly homework.

School Safety Video (Grades 3–5): Students will view the required DCPS safety video on Friday, August 22. If you would like to opt your student out, you must do so in the Focus app no later than Wednesday, August 20. Links to preview the video were included in Friday’s handouts. If you have any questions, please reach out to your teacher via Rooms.

Open House: Mark your calendars for Thursday, August 28. More details about times and location are included in the blue folder.

Car Rider Procedures:

If you still need a car tag, please request one from your child’s teacher through the Rooms app. You can always use your pikmykid app instead of using the car tag.

Beginning this week, car rider dismissal will begin at 2:40 p.m. (doors will not open earlier).

Please have your car tag visible on the driver’s side.

After 3:15 p.m., students must be picked up in the front lobby with your car tag or photo ID. Staff supervision is not available after 3:15 unless your child is enrolled in Extended Day.

Important: After 5 early checkouts or five late pickups, a parent conference with our attendance team will be required to create a plan for on-time arrival and pickup.

Code of Conduct: All grade levels will review the DCPS Code of Conduct next week. You may view it anytime on the DCPS homepage.

CTE Spirit Shirts: Orders are due by Wednesday, August 20 at 3:00 p.m.

This week we will practice our lock down procedures. Students will remain in their classroom as the teacher explains the importance of listening quietly to instructions in the event of an emergency. We will conduct these drills monthly.

PTA & SAC: Look for more information soon about how to get involved in these important organizations that help support and guide our school.

Mustang Meadow Garden Collection: Mrs. Hunt is collecting clean milk jugs for our garden project. Students may drop them off in her classroom.

Water Bottles: If students bring a water bottle, it must stay in their cubby during class time. Water bottles often spill and damage materials when left at desks. Each classroom and hallway have a water fountain available for student use.

Dress code- please monitor your student's dress. Often the clothes we were on the weekends are not appropriate for the school day. Be mindful that while some things might have fit last month it may no longer fit this month. Our students are growing daily.

Thank you for your support in helping us ensure a safe and successful school year! We are excited to see your students soar to new heights this school year.

With Mustang P.R.I.D.E.
