Student Poll Worker Assistant Program
The Duval County Supervisor of Elections Office has launched a new civic engagement opportunity for Duval County high school students: the Student Poll Worker Assistant Program. This program allows eligible students to serve on weekends during Early Voting while earning both pay and community service hours.
The program provides a hands-on, nonpartisan civic experience that does not interfere with school schedules. It offers students a meaningful way to engage in civic life, strengthen college and scholarship applications, and develop valuable professional skills.
Students receive both online and in-person training covering election procedures, confidentiality, voter interaction, and professional conduct. They perform assigned duties such as greeting voters, providing information, distributing "I Voted" stickers, and other responsibilities for which they are trained.
Program Highlights
Earn $15 per hour for one eight-hour Early Voting shift.
Receive 11 community service hours for completing the training and serving as a Student Poll Worker Assistant.
Serve only on weekends during Early Voting—no school days are missed.
Receive a verification letter to submit to the school for community service documentation.
Eligibility Requirements
Must be 16 years of age or older.
Must be registered or pre-registered to vote.
Must maintain a minimum 2.0 GPA.
Complete the online application.
Submit a signed parent or guardian permission form.

MARINE SCIENCE MURAL AMAZES - Our Team Duval Shoutout for today goes to Donna Westrich, a marine science teacher at Fletcher High School, for creating hands-on learning experiences that bring creativity and community to campus. This year, students collaborated on Lenny the Whale Shark, painting individual cardboard tiles inspired by the theme, “What I love about the ocean or any marine ecosystem.” When assembled, the tiles form a stunning mural measuring more than 28 feet long and 9 feet tall. As the nominating staff member shared, “The giant mural is a physical manifestation of the dedication Ms. Westrich has to her students and to teaching.” Way to go, Ms. Westrich – thank you for helping students to see that they are part of something bigger!

SUPPORTING MILITARY FAMILIES – During this Month of the Military Child, one Team Duval parent is expressing gratitude for the way Fletcher High School Assistant Principal Kristin Riley helped her military family transition to a new school. Parent April Allen says, “Ms. Riley supported our military family’s transition from Japan to NAS Mayport with a pre-move video call, a private campus tour during break, seamless credit transfers, and thoughtful check-ins to ensure our whole family felt supported. Ms. Michaels Aeronautics students had the opportunity to work on building model planes out of thin metal sheets. It was an amazing experience to see the various models of planes we had been learning about the previous semester on a small, three-dimensional scale. Working alongside my peers allowed us each to attempt building a different plane model, resulting in a fleet of aircrafts across our table. It was a super fun class period, allowing us to participate in kinesthetic learning, providing a break from everyday learning and leading to a deepened understanding on the construction of aircrafts.
The Fletcher Jazz Machine got Straight Superiors at District Performance Assessment. (This is the highest rating given!) This is the first time that the Jazz Band has gotten straight superiors since Mr. Salinas became the band director. Congratulations to the Fletcher Jazz Machine!
Congratulations to Ms. Michaels' Dual Enrollment Aerospace program for being selected as one of the Top Three High School Aviation programs in North Florida at the NDIA STEM Symposium. Aerospace student Alex Emerson competed against hundreds of students at the event and won 1 of 6 STEM Scholarships!
