Welcome back, Rutledge families! This is Principal Adkins with your weekly updates for the week of September 1st through September 5th.
First off, I hope you had a nice Labor Day weekend! I know the weather was not the best but I know it was still an opportunity to rest, get away, and enjoy family. We are back for week 4 starting tomorrow morning! We are happy to see our students return to campus!
A few important events this week.
1. Open House for all PreK, Kindergarten, 1st grade, and 2nd grade will be this Thursday, September 4th, from 6:00 pm-7:00 pm. We will start in the cafeteria first with a few announcements and data points. From there we will dismiss to classrooms. This is an opportunity to meet the teachers and ask any questions you might have. Teachers will take this opportunity to inform you about their expectations and what you should see your child doing at home and at school. Please come out and meet your child's teacher and help them earn BIZI points.
2. Continued baseline assessments will happen this week. We are trying to complete all IReady, Lexia, STAR CBM, and more this week. We are about to start state testing PM1 soon so finishing baselines is important before that happens.
3. Our first BIZI store of the year will happen on Friday! Student can make their purchases by Wednesday afternoon. Items will be delivered during lunch time to students. Just a reminder that students earn BIZI points for attendance, grades, character, uniforms, and challenges. We want our students to succeed in all areas and we are not afraid to reward them for it either!
4. Attendance is a priority for our school this year. We cannot teach them if they are not here. Last Friday we rewarded 450 students for meeting our attendance goal in August. This month we will reward our students that are present 18 out of the 21 days we are in school for September. We are organizing a "glow in the dark" dance, and we'd love for students to be a part of our "Out of this World" Dance!
5. A few Unit Assessments are taking place this week in Math, and some happened last week. We will hold our first Green party this week by recognizing all students who made the "green". This is our expectation for all students at Rutledge is to be in the green!
This concludes our weekly updates! We hope you all have a wonderful night and a great rest of your weekend! See everyone in the morning!

SAC Meeting tonight! Hope to see you there!

Good evening RHP families! This is Principal Adkins with your weekly update for the week of August 25th through August 29th. The updates for the week are as followed:
We are heavily monitoring attendance and tardies this school year. On average each day, we have 40-44 students absent each day out of our 754 students. On Fridays we see an increase to 67-70 students absent, This is too many students absent each day and especially on a Friday. On average we are seeing 26 students tardy each day, which means they are missing small group and centers and even core instruction. We are also monitoring our families that check students out early every day so they do not have to wait in our car rider line. If you check students out repeatedly between 1:30 and 2:10 they are missing quality instruction needed, as well as some baseline testing. Please make sure students are at school each day, on time, and stay through dismissal. I promise our car rider line is a lot better than it once was. Students who continuously miss days, are tardy, and are checked out early will receive a meeting request to attend an Attendance Meeting. We are also rewarding our students that were present 13 out of the 15 days we were in school for August on Friday! We are always looking for ways to reward our students.
Baseline testing and STAR CBM will continue this week. In addition to teaching, our teachers have been administering baseline assessments so that they learn more about your student. This week our Kindergarten, 1st grade, and 2nd grade students will participate in STAR CBM Reading. This is another reason we need students at school and on time each day!
Our Kindergarten, 1st grade and 3rd grade will participate in Vision and Hearing Screenings on Thursday. This is a common occurrence for these grade levels. If your child is identified with a vision or hearing deficiency, then you will be notified. Usually, our 3rd graders are identified as needing glasses, and we can assist before they take the final state assessment in May.
We will hold our first SAC and possible PTA meeting on Tuesday at 5:00 pm in the Media Center. We must elect a new SAC president and discuss the bylaws. I know we have a group of parents who are looking into PTA and our next steps. We'd love to have you all there!
For our Car Riders, please make sure your child is picked up no later than 3:15 pm. Our teachers and staff are off the clock at 3:10 pm. We do not have the staff to watch late students. We are looking to charge late fees for students that are left after 3:15pm. Please make sure your child is picked up. We have options in Extended Day and even nearby Daycares. Please look into those alternatives.
We are excited for another week here at RHP!!!! Have a great rest of your weekend!

Welcome Back RHP families!
This is Principal Adkins with your weekly update for the Week of August 18th-22nd.
Our first week was a success and we started the year off with many happy students. Here are a few announcements going into Week 2.
Please make sure your students are at school each day and on time. We have an attendance reward each month and if your child meets the goal they will be invited to our celebration. For the month of August, we are in school for 15 days. Your child must be present 13 out of the 15 days to be invited to our celebration. The celebration will be out of this world.
Starting on Monday, if your child arrives to school after 8:35am, you must sign them in, and the student will receive a tardy slip. I will be out there personally to have you sign in. Students are missing valuable instruction when they are late.
BIZI bucks will start on Monday. Students earn bucks for Attendance, Academics, Character, Uniforms, and Challenges. The bucks they earn can be spent in our school store. Our first store will be on September 5th. You do not want to miss out on the items we have for sale.
Our Superintendent sent out a message last Friday regarding two DCPS students that were hit by cars last week on their way home. One student tragically lost their life. Please encourage your student to follow the rules of walker and bicycle safety. As adults, please make sure you are driving with 100% attention to the road and your surroundings. We will teach students about "Be Safe, Be Seen" through our PE class. When you are dropping students off in the morning, please flow the rules of the adults and do not speed through the car rider zone or the school zone. We all must do our part to keep children safe.
A few reminders for dismissal this week. Our car rider line should not be as long as it was last week. Our Boys and Girls Club will start on Monday. Emails went out for those that were accepted. If you need to change your dismissal location for your child, you must put it in writing and give it to the teacher. We must have authorization from the parent or guardian.
Some baseline testing is happening this week in many classes. This is our way of learning where your child is and where we need to start. Please make sure they are here for those baseline tests.
Let's make it a great week here at Rutledge Pearson Elementary! See everyone bright and early on Monday!

Good evening Rutledge Pearson families,
This is Principal Adkins, and we are happy to start the 2025-2026 school year. We are excited to see all students return and welcome our new students tomorrow morning. Families will be able to walk their students to class on both Monday and Tuesday from 8:00 a.m. to 8:30 a.m. All families must exit the building by 8:30am so we can begin our day.
We are a uniform school and students are rewarded with BIZI points and other incentives. We expect any color collared shirt, khaki or navy shorts, skirts, or pants.
Dismissal for PreKand siblings will start at 2:30pm in the bus loop. PreK families must pick up before 2:45 pm. All other students will dismiss at 2:45, starting with walkers. Walkers will be escorted to the walker corner, where they will then walk home. Car riders will be dismissed around 2:55 pm. Please ensure you stay in your car and follow the staff's directions. The line will move quickly if you help us move it along. We will start getting names from cars around 1:30 pm. Those who choose to walk up to get students will be turned away by our School Police Officer. Expect delays since this is our first week of school. Each day will get better and faster. We are a school of 754 students. Bus and Van will be dismissed at 3pm.
We are excited to start this school year and cannot wait to see everyone bright and early Monday morning! Have a great night!

A few reminders before Monday for our families,
1. If you plan for your child to ride a bus this school year you must register your child for a bus through your Parent FOCUS account. The district is requiring families to register this school year. You will also find your bus number and stop through your focus account as well. Students must have a Student ID to get on the bus, we will ensure that ID is available for them once we return to school.
2. Families will be allowed to walk their children to class the first two days of school only. On Wednesday, no families will be allowed past the front office.
3. Dismissal will be a challenge the first week. If your child is a walker, they will be dismissed to the walkers' corner. Car Riders must go through the line. parents cannot walk up to the door to get their child. This delays the process for those in line. Our Officer will turn you away. We will collect students names starting at 1:30pm and we will give out water to families in cars as they wait. Please be nice to the teachers and staff working the line as they are in the heat for over an hour each day this week.
Looking forward to seeing everyone on Monday morning!
