DUVAL EDUCATOR IMPACTS ESOL LEARNERS - Our Team Duval Shoutout for today goes to Mr. Ortiz, our exceptional ESOL Summer Maintenance Paraprofessional at Raines High School! Originally from Puerto Rico, he brings valuable cultural perspective and connection that enriches the learning experiences of our multilingual students. His dedication to supporting our multilingual learners in grades 6–12 shines through in every small group session he leads. Thank you, Mr. Ortiz, for the passion, generosity, and excellence you bring to our students every day—you are truly making a difference!
FIRST DAY OF SCHOOL - The countdown is on — just ONE month until the first day of school on Monday, Aug. 10. Take small steps now to get ready: Adjust sleep schedules a little each week, gather school supplies and organize backpacks, keep learning going with 20 minutes of reading or math each day, mark important school dates on your family calendar, and start practicing morning routines. We can't wait to welcome everyone back for another amazing year!

DUVAL TEEN HONORED – This Team Duval Shoutout goes to Jordan Sanders, a junior at Raines High School. During March, Jordan proudly represented his district at the Leadership Conference for Top Teens of America in Nashville, Tennessee. Serving as Mr. Top Teen of America for the Duval Chapter, he partook in an enriching experience centered on leadership, community service, and personal development. Shout out to Jordan for exemplifying what it means to be a Duval student, inside and out!
HASLEM SELECTED FOR HARVARD EVENT – Team Duval is proud to celebrate William M. Raines High School junior Laila Haslem, who has been selected as a delegate for the Congress of Future Medical Leaders at Harvard University this summer. This prestigious opportunity will provide Laila with valuable insights, resources, and connections to support her future career in medicine. District Support Technician Willie Hall says, “This esteemed honor acts as a catalyst for aspiring medical professionals, inspiring them to pursue their ambitions.” Congratulations to Laila on this outstanding achievement—we can’t wait to celebrate her success in Boston!

All students who plan to ride a school bus next year must be registered in advance, including students enrolled in self-contained ESE programs. Clear or mesh backpack ONLY. Purses must be no larger than a standard sheet of paper (8.5" x 11").
PANTS/BOTTOMS
SOLID grey, deep red (burgundy), or khaki chino or dress pants. NO denim/jeans, joggers, leggings, yoga pants, or sweatpants are allowed. NO two colors or faded, with holes, frays or rips are allowed.
OUTERWEAR
Jackets, coats, cardigans, and sweaters MUST have school logo embroidered on it. NO sweatshirt over uniform shirt. NO hoodies. NO dickies jackets. NO headscarves/bandanas. NO hats.
SHOES
NO crocs, foam runners, slides, bedroom shoes, flip-flops, or backless shoes are to be worn on campus.
*Starting 2025/2026 school year: NO black uniform or jean bottoms can be worn. No jeans (or jean-like material). No Denim. No Dungaree material bottoms can be worn.

Congratulations to Lauryn Taylor, for placing as Runner-Up for Duval County in the 2025 Congressional Art Competition. Her artwork is on display at the Duval County Courthouse. Last year her artwork was on display at the Clay County Courthouse. 6 Raines students entered their artwork in this competition.
