📣❤️🖤 Raider Nation Important Reminders & Family Updates 🖤❤️📣
🚀 Thursday, September 10, 2026 | Morning Update 🚀

Good Morning, Raider Nation families!

Thank you for continuing to partner with Westside Middle School as we move through the 2026–2027 school year with purpose, focus, and urgency. Strong schools are built through strong partnerships, and we are grateful for the support of our parents, guardians, and families.

Please review today’s important Raider Nation updates. ⬇️

━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━
📚📝 Update 1: State Testing Continues
━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━

PM1 testing continues this week. Students will continue participating in ELA testing, and we will continue conducting make-up testing for Math.

Attendance remains extremely important during testing. Please make sure students are:

✅ Present
✅ On time
✅ Well-rested
✅ Prepared for the day
✅ Ready to give their best effort

PM1, or Progress Monitoring 1, helps us understand where students are starting the school year. This assessment gives teachers, students, and families important information about student strengths, areas for growth, and instructional needs.

Because PM1 is given at the beginning of the school year, it serves as a starting point. It helps us plan support, interventions, enrichment, and classroom instruction as students continue toward PM2 and PM3 later in the year.

Families will be able to review student performance once results are available through the Florida Statewide Assessments Family Portal.

📌 Attendance matters.
📌 Effort matters.
📌 Every assessment helps us move with Urgency Forward. 🚀

━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━

✅ Students must wear Westside Middle School logoed uniform shirts.
✅ Student IDs are part of the uniform expectation.
✅ IDs must be worn daily while on campus, on school transportation, and at school-sponsored events.

🪪 ID Replacement Reminder:

If a student has lost, damaged, or needs to replace their student ID, the replacement fee is $5 per item.

Families may pay for ID replacements in one of two ways:

💵 Cash payment at school
or
💳 Online payment through SchoolCash Online

📣❤️🖤 Raider Nation Information Update | What Will Voters See on the Ballot? 🖤❤️📣

Westside Raiders, help us keep our school community informed.

This November, voters will see ballot language asking whether the Duval County School District should continue the current one-mill ad valorem millage for essential operating expenses.

The official ballot language states that the funding would continue to support teacher and staff compensation, security and support staff, academic programs, arts, athletics, and student activities, with annual reporting for fiscal stewardship.

We are sharing this information so Raider Nation families can understand what will appear on the November 3 ballot and where to find accurate information.

📣❤️🖤 Raider Nation Information Update | 1-Mill Referendum 🖤❤️📣

Raider Nation families, why is the 1-mill back on the ballot this November?

The current 1-mill was approved by Duval County voters in 2022. Under Florida law, voters must consider its continuation every four years.

According to Duval County Public Schools, the 1 mill has helped support teacher compensation and efforts to recruit and retain qualified, certified educators. Since 2022, DCPS has reported that teacher vacancies have declined, teacher retention has increased, and the district has earned an A rating for two consecutive years.

As we approach the November election, Westside Middle School will share factual information to help our families understand what the 1 mill is, how the funding is used, and what voters will be asked to consider.

For more frequently asked questions, please visit the DCPS website:

📣❤️🖤 Raider Nation Parent Update | Urgency Forward 🖤❤️📣

Good Evening, Raider Nation families.

Thank you, parents and guardians, for helping us have a smooth and successful opening of school! We are grateful for your patience, partnership, preparation, and trust as we welcomed our scholars back to campus.

Raider Nation is off to a strong start, and we are excited for everything in store for the 2026–2027 school year. Our theme is Urgency Forward, and that means we are moving with purpose, keeping students at the center, and working together to make every day count.

Please review this week’s important updates.

Update 1: SAC Meeting

Our School Advisory Council, or SAC, meeting will be held on Tuesday at 5:30 PM in the Westside Middle School Media Center.

Families are invited to attend, listen, engage, and partner with us as we continue advocating for Raider Nation. Your voice matters, and we welcome your partnership in helping our school continue moving forward.

Update 2: Raider Nation Discipline Briefings

On Monday, August 24, 2026, we will conduct grade-level discipline briefings with students.

During these briefings, we will review schoolwide expectations, reward systems, our DNA list, and consequences connected to potential misbehavior. Our goal is to be clear, consistent, proactive, and supportive so every student understands what it means to represent Raider Nation with pride.

Update 3: Schedule Changes

In the coming weeks, we will begin making schedule adjustments based on schoolwide needs.

Families may have submitted requests for specific schedule changes. Please know that schedules are created and adjusted based on three priorities:

State testing data and master scheduling guidelines
Logistics, safety, and security
Behavior

No student is guaranteed a schedule change. We will continue reviewing schedules carefully and making adjustments that support student success and the school's needs.

Update 4: Uniform and Dress Code

Raider Nation, our students have done a great job with uniforms during the first two weeks of school. Thank you, families, for helping our scholars come to school prepared and ready to learn.

Please remember that students must wear Westside Middle School logoed uniform shirts. Shirts without the Westside logo are not permitted.

Grade-level colors are:

6th Grade: Grey
7th Grade: Red
8th Grade: Black

Students must wear black pants or black shorts. Closed-toe shoes with a back are required. Hoodies, Crocs, slides, flip-flops, sandals, leggings, jeans, sweatpants, pajama pants, joggers, ripped bottoms, and non-logo outerwear are not permitted.

📣❤️🖤 Raider Nation Community Spotlight: Advocacy, Partnership, and Love in Action 🖤❤️📣

Good afternoon, Raider Nation families.

Every now and then, we get to witness something that reminds us who we are at our core.

Raider Nation is more than a school. We are a family. We are a village. We are a community where people see a need, step toward it, and work together to serve our scholars.

Those who know Dean Lewis know this well: when she sees a gap, she does not simply talk about it. She rallies. She organizes. She advocates. She moves with purpose. And this time, that purpose became partnership.

Through the efforts of Mrs. Lewis and her husband, Mr. Lewis, Westside Middle School was able to collaborate with the men of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Incorporated, to support families who may need assistance with school uniforms.

Last year, our SAC Committee voted to transition our uniform vendor to RC Uniforms. As a uniform school serving a beautifully diverse community, we recognize that while uniforms help create consistency, structure, and pride, some families may need additional support. This generous donation allows us to assist some of our families with the greatest need so that our students can walk into school prepared, confident, and ready to focus on what matters most: learning, growth, and academic achievement.

This is what advocacy looks like.
This is what partnership feels like.
This is what community does.

We are deeply grateful to Dean Lewis, Mr. Lewis, and the men of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Incorporated, for standing in the gap with us and helping Raider Nation serve scholars and families with dignity, care, and love.

Families who may need uniform assistance may contact Mrs. Lewis by email at lewisl@duvalschools.org.

Please know that Westside Middle School has a process for reviewing requests and providing support when available. While we cannot guarantee assistance for every family, we will continue to do our best to serve families with compassion, fairness, and care.

Raider Nation, this is how we lift as we climb.

❤️🖤 One Team. One Family. One Goal. Raider Strong.
